Location: Lewis school of English rests in the southern English city of Southampton. The area around the school is very central within the city and most things are within walking distance of the school with supermarkets, shops, bars and restaurants close by for students to use before and after their studies.
Getting around: Southampton has its own International airport which is considerably smaller than other main airports in the country and is just 25 minutes by train from the city centre. The school is 15 minutes walk away from the central train station of Southampton and from here students can visit the capital city in an hour and 35 minutes and there are direct trains to other southern English cities including Bournemouth and Brighton.
Local attractions: Southampton is an important port city in England and the home port for some of the largest cruise ships in the world. However, the city is most recognised for its links to the Titanic which departed from its harbour in 1912. The SeaCity Museum explains the connection between the city and the Titanic as well as providing a clear picture of the port throughout history. Lewis school of English is next to Palmerston Park and just 5 minutes walk from the SeaCity museum. England has a very interesting history and The Tudor House is a museum which displays 800 years of history of Southampton for anyone wanting to learn more about the city. It is 15 minutes from the school and is great for understanding the culture of the area. Southampton holds the great shopping centre, West Quay, not far from the school and students can browse endless stores during a free afternoon. Southampton is a great base to learn English, with plenty to see and do within the city itself and with great travel connections to surrounding cities.
School facilities: Lewis School of English is housed in an 18th century building with facilities including a garden with table tennis, a computer room, a coffee room with mini kitchen, a prayer room and free wifi throughout.
School ethos: The school's whole ethos is around providing a personal approach to learning for each individual student. Students are encouraged from the start to discuss with their teachers what their personal goals are in learning English so that the teachers can adapt the classes to ensure that all students receive the style that suits them. A weekly discussion with your teacher ensures you are on the right track and with classes no bigger than 12 students allows the teacher to really focus on the group dynamic and provide individual attention.
Leisure programmes: Social activities are scheduled each week and vocabulary sheets are provided to practise during your trip. To improve your communication skills, weekly study clubs are set up to help with confidence and verbal cues in the English language.
Course structure: The school has courses for students wanting to branch out in a particular field of study or area within the English language such as Business English, prepare for the IELTS exam, improve upon their pronunciation or writing and there is a specific course for speaking and writing for Arabic speakers. Summer programmes for junior students are hosted in the nearby Solent University and include a full activity package and accommodation in a homestay or in the university’s residence. No matter what your age or language goal, there is a course here for you.

School policy regarding bank holidays:Private classes are recuperated or refunded. Same as for nearly all language schools, group classes falling on bank holiday are not refunded and not recuperated.

Visa Documents
Nationals from USA do not require a visa to study short term courses up to 180 days. A valid passport and an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) is required to enter the UK. The application for the ETA is done online https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-an-electronic-travel-authorisation-eta. The answer is expected within 3 working days, costing GBP 10. The ETA allows multiple entries in the country for up to 6 months for a maximum of 2 years or until the passport used when applying expires.
