School ethos: A 10-minute walk from the main Cambridge train station is LSI Cambridge, a modest-sized school, which prides itself on creating a family atmosphere, being both caring and supportive to all its students in order to create an excellent teaching facility. With over 50 years of experience, LSI believes that a supportive environment with specially trained staff for all students needs throughout their stay allows for maximum learning potential and career progression with certifications rewarded on course completion.

Location: Cambridge is home to one of the top Universities in the UK, making it a vibrant and eclectic student town. The school is located in a peaceful residential area, with cafes and supermarkets dotted around the neighbourhood. Along with the famous Cambridge university, there are other points of interest in the city including the Fitzwilliam Museum with interesting collections of arts and antiquities and the beautiful Botanical Garden all within a 20-minute walking radius of the school.

Course structure: Cambridge LSI has a wide range of options on offer, from general courses for those wanting to get to grips with the English language, private lessons for more specific focus, Exam courses in IELTS and Cambridge Exams as well as career progression courses in fields such as Law and Teaching.

Quality of teaching / language progress: Everything was fantastic for me. Although the classrooms was small, the teachers were passionate and students are eager to learn English. Also Admin Staff tried to help the students.
Other comments All teachers in LSI were nice except one guy. I don't remember his name. Maybe... Chris or something? He was my 1:1 lessons teacher. I was supposed to take 5 times of 1:1 lesson. When he met me for the first time, he started to change the time of class. Then he always chatted, not gave me the English lesson. One time I had to take the very easy listening test. He played just the audio file, and there was no feedback of my test. I can take the listening test by myself without the feedback. So I asked him to take the IELTS lessons. He said 'Yes, of course', but he started chatting again. Although he said 'This is the English training.', but there was no meaning, no target to learn, no lessons, and no result. He killed my time and money. If I have a chance to take English lessons in the UK, I would like to choose LSI in Cambridge again. But if I have to take some lessons from him, I never go to Cambridge.

Insider tip: “Having seen the student residences, where other classmates lived, I would undoubtedly prefer a residence over of a host family because the family members hardly talk to you, they give you microwaved meals and live on the outskirts while the residences are more central. The host family situation has gotten much worse. Where were those families with children who would take you on trips on Saturdays and Sundays and treat you like a family members? Nowadays, they are all older couples who do it to make some money and who ignore you and pout if you arrive for dinner at 8 instead of at 7 (we are students and on vacation, come on! And for a frozen meal heated in the microwave, it's not that big of a deal)”

Generally course material is distributed free to students and will stay in student property.
Individual classes
Single individual lessons of tuition can be reserved at 65 £. The combination of group and individual lessons is highly recommended. Individual lessons will encourage you to actively speak the foreign language and will offer you the opportunity to discuss individual problems and weaknesses.

If a bank holiday falls on a weekday there is no refund nor are missed lessons recuperated. This is the case for the majority of language schools.
Level test
A test to assess your exact language level takes place before the start of the course via an online form.

Visa Documents

Nationals from Germany do not require a visa to study short term courses up to 180 days. A valid passport and an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) is required to enter the UK. The application for the ETA is done online https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-an-electronic-travel-authorisation-eta. The answer is expected within 3 working days, costing GBP 10. The ETA allows multiple entries in the country for up to 6 months for a maximum of 2 years or until the passport used when applying expires.
Check visa requirements for nationals from other countries.
Nationals from countries that require a visa will receive documents from the school, related to booking confirmation, which is required for the visa application.
