Studying French in one of the most sought-after travel destinations in the world is no longer something that is out of reach. Centre International d’Antibes is favourably located in the French Riviera and welcomes over 5000 students from 30 different countries annually. This fabulous region boasts 16 miles of sandy beaches and 300 days of sunshine a year. These are but some of the qualities that attract students to Antibes. Centre International Antibes’ learning methodology allows candidates to follow the standard or intensive courses to work on their written and oral skills required by the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference).

Junior programs take place from 02 April to 28 Oct in Antibes, but there are also summer programs (02 July to 19 Aug) available in the bustling Mediterranean town of Cannes. Adult programs are focused on professional courses, DELF exam preparations, a vast collection of general long and short programs and family programs. The main school in Antibes (Le Château) is situated conveniently near the coastal area of the town and is surrounded by museums, cinemas, markets and of course, captivating blue waters and white sands for a perfect way to unwind after your classes.

I attended both the château campus and the port and I loved the location of both. The château school is a beautiful building with an amazing view of the mountains, while the port is right on top of an Irish pub, in the main part of town, and right next to Port Vauban and the beach (although it is a bit further from the Castel Arabel residence, but I enjoyed the walk). I also loved my teacher Céline and the small class environment, I felt I learned so much as well as getting to know everybody. The town of Antibes is so lovely, and Juan-les-pins too. Living at the student residence was an awesome experience and I met so many cool people.
Insider tip: Make the most of it! Do your homework, speak up in class, get to know the other students in your class and at the residence, and explore the beautiful surroundings of Antibes and the nearby towns.

Other comments I am a disorganised person myself so it did not bother me too much but the company did seem a little disorganised. On my second week on Wednesday, I was moved into a different class that was far too hard for me with no warning or explanation, but thankfully by the end of the week they realised this and placed me in a more suitable class with my first teacher again.

The location was good, whether in the city or in the Château, because it was easy to get there by bus. I could even get there in 10 minutes. I was in the city in 30 minutes on foot. The lessons are good. The teachers explain well and French is ALWAYS spoken. New words are always explained, not translated.
Disliked
The week we had classes at the Château, we only had chairs with a tiny folding table on them. There is no space at all. Real desks would be better. The language level of the students in one class was too different. A2 and B2 together is difficult. Information about the buses and prices to the students would be helpful.
Insider tip: I wouldn't know, because the interests of the participants are totally different depending on their age. For example, I was in Grasse at the Fragonard factory. Not so interesting for teenagers, I bet.

Quality of teaching / language progress: All good. In the afternoons, there were only two of us in the first week. Oliver was our teacher. Was very good.

Olga is a good teacher who responded very well to our wishes and weaknesses. Balance of grammar and exercises and lots of conversation. Young dedicated team of the school who accompanied us on the excursions and when picking us up from the accommodation.
Disliked
Desk space too small. Outdated school, renovation urgently needed. Modern technology to make lessons interactive was missing or defective. Teacher had to show films on her laptop. Food was very poor. A lot ended up in the rubbish. After the second day, I no longer ate at the school.

Quality of teaching / language progress: Super programme. Learning followed by excursions in the afternoon. I really liked the Aragon. The boss Dominique was always very helpful and friendly. All in all, we were a super group of women.

It was very close to my house I went to the location at the port. And I liked the classmates from all kinds of countries.the student card allowed you to have a lot of discounts in museums....
Disliked
We were 11 students in class, an excessive number for oral practice. The teacher did not use new technologies and hardly used the blackboard, we corrected the exercises by voice which, given the French spelling, created confusion as to whether you had the correct correction.
Insider tip: Some classmates who were in the school's residence complained that it was far away and not very well equipped. But I could not verify that because I did not stay in the residence of the International Center.

Quality of teaching / language progress: I really enjoyed the experience, although I think there should be fewer students per class.

Sadly my first teacher became ill and we had a new teacher for the last 3 days. She wasn’t a good teacher and I lost all confidence in my ability. The classrooms were inadequate. Noisy and hot and the audiovisual equipment was either nonexistent or didn’t work

Quality of teaching / language progress: The course level was the right one for me. The teacher gave clear explanations, the texts, audio and visual material used were interesting and the teaching was lively and at times amusing. My only criticism of the lessons is that pair work, which would have given us more opportunities to speak, was used only once in the two weeks. There were no afternoon activities apart from a walk into town on the first day to show us around Antibes and there were no excursions.

Between 10 and 11 pupils per class, although it is difficult to find schools with fewer.
Insider tip: The school has 3 locations in Antibes. If you are going to rent an independent flat, it is best to make sure beforehand in which location you are going to study (adults normally study in the Le Port location).

The animateurs were very nice. It was also great getting to know other kids from all over Europe.
Insider tip: Don’t forget to bring mosquito spray. The onsite pool is not a real pool but an inflatable «kids’ pool». Bring your own bedsheets because the one you get is made from a kind of plastic-type material.
Review details
Quality of teaching / language progress: My daughter had very limited (near zero) knowledge of French when she arrived, and so was placed in the beginners’ group. However, according to my daugher the teachers just spoke quickly in French most of the time and asked the pupils to repeat, or to copy what she wrote on the blackboard. Hardly a pedagogical way to teach beginners a new language.
Other comments My daugher was very disappointed with the food. Travelling to France, she had expected getting good French food. She says the food was «typical American» which I think means it was very institusionalised.
