Normandy is a French region, whose coastline is on the English Channel. In 2016 the regions of Haute-Normandie and Basse-Normandie were joined and its new name was simplified to Normandy. The region has an interesting past, particularly on its northeastern shore. The Normandy American Cemetery and Juno Beach Centre stand along this coast and both explain its history in detail. The history of the region extends to the city of Caen, just inland from the shoreline. The Mémorial de Caen is in the city of Caen and depicts twentieth-century history. Caen Castle, L'Abbaye-aux-Hommes and the amusement park, Parc Festyland are also found in the city. In the south of Normandy, on its southern tip coastline is the spectacular Abbatiale du Mont-Saint-Michel.
