What our students said about Montpellier

Montpellier is a top city. It is the right size. The city centre is mostly car-free or almost car-free. So it's great for pedestrians. There are many old buildings and small winding streets to discover. The people have all been really friendly and helpful, even with very little knowledge of French (A1). Food and drink can be found in all price ranges, even for those on a tight budget (student city). The Mediterranean is not far away. The Cévennes are also recommended for a 2-day trip at the weekend. There are also organised day trips at weekends. The language school itself offers 1-2 activities per day, but depending on the time of the course, you can't always take part in all of them. For those who don't like the summer heat, I can recommend October.

The city is beautiful, with a small old center. You can inspect everything in 3-4 days. There are two buses to the beach nearby. The beach is gorgeous, better than in Nice, very similar to the beaches in Goa, in India, where there is a place for everyone. The sea is calm. There are a lot of strange people (young Frenchmen) in the city on the streets, such as homeless people with dogs, asking for money. Sometimes you get the impression of a slightly dirty city. I was not returning home late and had no problems.

I liked Montpelier, it’s a very walkable city. I spent a lot of time exploring the area between the school and thé Croix d’argent area. I felt quite safe walking home. The tram ride was quite convenient, but I preferred to walk. I didn’t do a lot of sightseeing because I was studying and I can’t go at night because I can’t see very well.

City is vibrant and full of activities, well connected by means of transport. As cons, reports from more students of episodes of harassment and an attempted pickpocket from two drunk guys. Smell of urine and vomit from the night before fairly common unfortunately, in the city center.

Well the school location is Amazing, just in the heart of the city in the way that I've imagined, surrounded by very French 18 century Palace Particulaire that I love. Public transport to get into the school from where I was living was great and very efficient.

Great for a city break loads of history art and festivals. There is also great surrounding countryside. It’s a shame however that the beaches are not more easily accessible.

Honestly goes for most towns / cities but it's quite dangerous to go back home any later than 1 am if you're a woman. Also, I've heard from people who got robbed quite easily.

The city is lovely and fun to stroll around, and there are many different types of stores. I recommend this place as it is easy to get to from Paris by TGV.

Interesting architecture, lots of concrete with little green, except for the gardens and riverbanks, lots to see, dirty despite regular rubbish collection

It’s nice enough and was to get to nearby places, despite the train strike (which I have had to deal with every single time I have been in France).
