Auvergne and Rhône-Alpes were regions officially merged in 2016 to form the singular province of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. It is located in the East of France, with its eastern frontier touching both Italy and Switzerland. The Alps Mountain Range stretches across the landscape to the east of the Province. There are a large number of perfect skiing destinations such as Les Arcs and Les 3 Vallées. Close to Les 3 Vallées is the very scenic Lake Annecy. The central city of Lyon is the capital of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. La Basilique Notre Dame de Fourvière, Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon and Confluences Museum are popular activities in the city.
