What our students said about Sao Paulo

São Paulo, despite its fame and bustling city life, is not a destination I would recommend for several reasons: 1. High Pollution Levels: One of the most pressing issues in São Paulo is the significant air pollution. The city’s dense traffic and industrial activities contribute to poor air quality, which can be a health concern, especially for those with respiratory issues. 2. Excessive Noise: The constant hum of traffic, construction, and urban activities creates a noise pollution problem in São Paulo. The relentless sounds of the city can be overwhelming, making it difficult to find peace and quiet. 3. Dangerous Driving Conditions: The roads of São Paulo are notorious for hazardous driving conditions. Overcrowded streets, aggressive drivers, and a high rate of traffic accidents make navigating the city by car a stressful experience. 4. Lack of Green Spaces: Compared to other major cities, São Paulo lacks sufficient natural green spaces. The dearth (shortage) of parks and nature reserves within the city limits means fewer opportunities for residents and visitors to escape the urban sprawl and enjoy nature. 5. Stressful Urban Environment: The combination of pollution, noise, crowded spaces, and the fast-paced nature of city life contributes to a generally stressful environment. This can be particularly taxing for visitors who are not accustomed to such intense urban settings. In conclusion, while São Paulo has its cultural and economic significance, these critical issues - pollution, noise, traffic dangers, lack of nature, and overall stress - make it a challenging place to visit for those seeking a more relaxed or healthier environment.

It is worth studying at school. Paulistas said that São Paulo was a dangerous city. I think that during the day it's not too risky. The air quality wasn't bad, and the people were kind. Next time I would like to drink coconut water.

Its fine. One just has to realise it’s not a tourist city! It’s a commerce city, and the language is Portuguese. So a great place to immerse oneself into the language.

It’s a very cosmopolitan place, with lots of wealth, but also a lot of areas that seem somewhat unsafe. I really enjoyed it and thought people were very friendly.

Good! Because this city is ugly and beautiful, it has a thousand faces. I thrive with good people and a great vibe. If only I had good people and a great vibe.

It's Cool

There is a bar, "Caju Verde," a pet store right next door, and an ice cream parlor downstairs! I got along well with Nita, the cat in the pet store, and we had a peaceful time together, so I felt comfortable going to class and learning a wide range of basic knowledge. I got to know the teachers well and feel I am one step closer to becoming bilingual. I now want to learn more Portuguese!

FAQ - Frequently asked questions about Portuguese courses in Sao Paulo

  • Regarding private lessons, I would like to let you know that it is of course not compulsory, but experience shows that students get a lot out of it. It gives you a little extra support to understand the material more deeply, as the teacher has to divide his/her/their attention during group lessons. Even one private lesson gives a huge boost. For example, you could choose to do 1 private lesson a week.

  • We currently have no specific conversation courses in Sao Paolo, so you can either take part in a standard course where the focus is on all four language skills (speaking, writing, listening and reading) or book specialised private lessons where you can choose to focus more on speaking.
