The school’s teaching method for its Standard German course uses cultural themes to complement the programme’s 20 weekly lessons. Reading, writing, speaking and listening are all covered in depth, with your teachers adjusting the content depending on your group’s level.

The Standard German language course delivered by this school at their Munich location sets you up for success from the beginning. This option represents the 20 lessons per week course, and is one of the most popular modalities due to its balance of stimulating serious progress but at the same time leaving your timetable relatively open.

Every lesson lasts for roughly 45 minutes, and the groups have a maximum capacity of 12 - although in practice their average numbers are 7 people per group. Keeping classes small in this way benefits participants by letting them learn in an environment where it’s easy to speak up and be heard - especially useful when it comes to getting your burning questions answered.

The Intensive course is the standard German language course offered from TANDEM academy in Cologne, and consists of 20 lessons per week. Classes take place from Monday to Friday, usually on the morning schedule of 9:30 to 13:00. For everyone except absolute beginners, the course can be started on almost any day of the year. Your level will be assessed approximately with the school’s placement test.

Groups are kept in small numbers, between 5 and 12 participants. Small classes are a feature that makes participating verbally in your lessons more realistic, and also allows your teacher to get to know you and your specific needs more easily.

Every month the students have the chance to take part in a progress test, which is a motivational tool that the school uses to show you your improvements.

By taking part in HLI’s home tuition programme in Heidelberg, you will develop your German language skills on a schedule of 15 hours per week. The lessons are on a one-to-one basis, and take place in your teacher’s home, where you will live in a single room.

Your host family will give you a tour of Heidelberg, which is home to numerous archaeological curiosities, including the ruins of Schloss Heidelberg, and the remains of the Thingstatte amphitheatre.
