What our students said about Nice

Very beautiful town. The sea view is beautiful and it's a 5-minute walk from the school. Nice has a wonderful size. In a fortnight, we were able to explore the city well and even some places in the surrounding area. The school hands out a student card that allows free entry to almost all museums - great! There is good public transport, but I hardly used it within Nice. From the main train station, Monaco, Menton and Eze can be reached in 20-40 minutes. To the south, you can also get to Cannes by train or by bus to St. Paul de Vence - highly recommended!

Nice is a wonderful city. There is a lot to see, the public transport is great, you can easily get to Monaco, Menton, Cannes, Antibes and within the city for 1.50€ per ride (or 1€ if you buy a 10-ride ticket). There are great museums, the opera has a very good programme and there is something to see on every corner or you can just sit on the beach or the promenade and enjoy the fantastic weather, which is there almost all year round.
The only downside: unfortunately, dog owners leave dog poop all over the pavements!!!

Nice is very well located as it is about halfway between Monaco and Cannes. Public transport works quite well and in general it is a nice city. Nice is not very clean as you could find dog shit in many corners or rubbish on the ground. Although it is a bit more expensive than most of France, you can always find cheaper places if you look for them. The weather is generally pleasant although it is very hot in July and August. Nice is safe during the day but at night it is uncomfortable to walk the streets alone.

I had an amazing 2 months stay. Nice is the perfect town to relax, meet people and study French. I recommend staying here and visiting all "Cafe des langues" after class. Profitez-vous :) I felt the same and may do the same as Matisse: "Quand j'ai compris que chaque matin je reverrais cette lumière, je ne pouvais pas croire en mon bonheur. J'ai décidai de ne pas quitter Nice et j'y ai demeuré pratiquement toute mon existence."

Some must-see museums in Nice and the surrounding area. Interesting excursions to other coastal towns or to the mountains are possible by bus or train. In the city the castle hill with the ruins, beautiful view, the old town of Nice, various churches, squares, the view from the roof terraces of the 4 or 5 star hotels. Good geographical location (near Monaco, Italy, Marseille, French Maritime Alps).

Perfect place for language learning and vacationing with a blend of culture and nature. crystal clear sea, mountains, Nice itself is a nice, decently sized city with bars, shops and museums, and many smaller, interesting towns nearby. excellent seafood. The locals seems a little rough at first but will help you if you need it.

I can think of absolutely nothing I do not like about Nice except it is rather expensive, ie, the supermarkets and the accommodation. The transport is very reasonably priced and the cost of a night out is not too much depending on where you go to. It is one of the most beautiful cities and the Cote d'Azur is breath-taking.

I had Brigit and Laurence as my teachers. Both of them are enthusiastic and you can tell they like teaching. I was pleased with them very much for showing genuine interest about where I’m from. I’ve taken many French Lessons in my life and this school was by far the best.

... was set in one of the most beautiful places on the Côte d'Azur, beautiful architecture has been preserved, wonderful markets, historically there are more interesting places than Nice, but the light is brilliant; I wouldn't want to be there in the high season.

Nice is really one of the nicest large cities in France. The Promenade des Anglais and the sea are unforgettable. There are many very interesting small cities and places to visit nearby a short train ride away. Italy, too, is very close.

Information about Nice

Why Nice? Nice is situated in the south of France on the Cote d'Azur. It is an old historic city also known for its boulevard, Le Promenade des Anglais, the lively old quarter and the wide sweep of Mediterranean seafront. The cuisine Niçoise is worth investigating with treats such as Socca, Panisse, Pissaladière and Pan Bagnat to name just a few of the local delights from the city. One of the most enticing things about Nice is its perfect annual climate which attracts visitors throughout the year. Nice is divided into a modern, cosmopolitan city which is bubbling with innovation and the old, colourful quarter, packed to the brim with history. There is something for everyone in this fabulous city.
What we like about Nice

The charming city of Nice has perfect temperatures year round. Even the wettest months boast of more than 20 days of sunshine. Nice is located in the French Riviera whose habitat ranges from long stretches of sandy white beaches to excellent hiking trails in the hills. Nice is close to the border of Italy, which makes it a foodie’s dream. A mixture of the French cuisine with strong Italian influences results in a scrumptious local cuisine. There are a lot of cultural events going on throughout the year. Check well in advance and see if you can combine your visit with a jazz festival or carnival. Make the most of your study abroad experience!

What we dislike about Nice

Nice has a lot of cultural influences, which means it is not viewed as an authentic French experience like other larger French cities. Despite this, many people still spend their vacations in this beautiful city. Due to the excellent temperatures, this means that the city is crowded for most of the year. Prices are also high throughout the year, but with a bit of forward planning, it is still possible to find reasonably priced accommodation.

Q&A - Questions about French courses and schools in Nice

  • We always ask former students in the evaluation if they have any tips for new students. You can see all these tips on our Nice page, under 'city reviews'. There are bound to be fantastic ideas about what you could do once you are there.
    Robin Rebecca Pietersma, LanguageCourse.Net - Jul 20, 2023
  • It is important to know your current language level, because then we can estimate approximately how many weeks you will need to reach the fluent French level. You can book most courses by the week, as many weeks as you like.

And I also recommend, if you want to use your French for business purposes, to take some specialised classes for that as well. Two schools in Nice that offer business French courses are Riviera French Institute and Idiom.
    Robin Rebecca Pietersma, LanguageCourse.Net - Jul 20, 2023
  • Azurlingua (8-12 years old) and Riviera French Institute (4-17 years old) both have options for young students. Azurlingua most likely only has the kids course running during summer, while Riviera has lessons all year round, starting every Monday.
    Robin Rebecca Pietersma, LanguageCourse.Net - Feb 20, 2023
  • Senior courses (50+) in nice are generally available in February, May, September and December. These are available for 1 or 2-week programmes.
    Fraser Provan , LanguageCourse.Net - Dec 16, 2022
  • Yes, usually the first available dates are in early to mid-January and during the year at least one date every month. The minimum level required to enter is B1 and the schools check with a pre-test whether or not the student can enter the preparatory course for the exam. As it is a specialized course in addition to the set dates it also has a mandatory duration.
    Antonio Zoppo, LanguageCourse.Net - Nov 21, 2022
  • That is great. If you are looking for the Mediterranean coast, Nice, Montpellier or Cannes could be a very good fit for you.

We have many options for immersion programmes with Homestay accommodation in these areas, giving you a great chance to live the full immersion experience of studying in France.

Please let us know your requested dates, either via our chat or email, and we will get some quotes over to you straight away.
    Fraser Provan, LanguageCourse.net - May 05, 2022
  • The schools can arrange one-to-one lessons at the language school, however, if students are interested in a specific school we can always check with the school if they would be willing to arrange lessons in cafés or any other place outside of the school. Lessons outside of the school may involve additional costs (e.g. travel expenses of the teacher).

FAQ - Frequently asked questions about French courses in Nice

  • We are an agency and not a school, so unfortunately we cannot offer teaching jobs. You can check out our partner schools on our website for inspiration, good luck!
Veronica Romualdi, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Aug 26, 2024
  • None of the schools in Nice offer scholarship or financial discounts.
Angela Ligartova, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Sep 29, 2023
  • The minimum required age for the adult courses in Nice is 16 - 17 years. The adult programmes don't have a maximum age therefore older students can attend as well. We can't guarantee the age of students as it depends on the language level of students, however the average age during summer is lower: 20-26 years. Older students might be attending the courses as well. The Actilangue school in Nice offers a junior course for 16-20 year old students, however students under the age of 18 years can only book homestay accommodation. The Azurlingua school offers courses for 12-17 year old students with accommodation in residence. Availability always has to be checked with the school.
Angela Ligartova, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - May 31, 2023
  • None of our partner schools offer 30 plus courses. The average age at the schools is 22-28 years. Students are placed with the right group according to their level. They get along well during the lesson as their language level and their goals are the same.
Angela Ligartova, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - May 03, 2023
  • The Azurlingua, ecole de langues language school offers many different options for juniors (8-17 year old students) during summer. Students can book the lessons only in the morning (20 lessons per week from Monday to Friday, schedule: 8:45 - 12:00). They may book the day programme, which includes the mentioned course, lunch from Monday to Saturday, 4 cultural or sport activities per week, 1 half-day excursion per week and 1 full-day excursion on Saturday. They can also book the junior package which includes French lessons, full board accommodation in homestay or residence, activities and excursion, airport transfer (return trip).
    Angela Ligartova, Consultant from LanguageCourse.net - Apr 14, 2022
  • The senior courses in Nice are not in the summer holidays. They are usually in spring or autumn. In the summer months, there are many young students on the road and so most schools choose to form good groups based on language level, rather than age.

You can also join the general French course as a senior. I checked which school has the highest average age in the summer months in Nice and that is International House Nice (summer 25, all year 30). Furthermore Actilangue, Nice, France (summer 20, whole year 30) and Azurlingua, ecole de langues (summer 22, whole year 25) are also very good options and you are more than welcome in the general French courses.
