Lyon ratings & opinions
How our students rated their experience in Lyon
What our students said about Lyon
I thought Lyon was great! A pleasant, very interesting city with different, lively districts, many great impressions, a large park, small squares, cultural offers. The culinary offer in particular is great, and at affordable prices. The museums are also worth seeing, there are changing, exciting exhibitions. I especially liked the walks along the Rhone and the Saône, where you can picnic, party in the houseboats, just sit around and enjoy the atmosphere. Everything is peaceful and harmless. I walked alone through the streets at 10.30 p.m. and never had the feeling of being in danger.
Lyon is a 'young' city with a high proportion of students. The people overall are very friendly and relaxed, even if I disregarded the traffic rules (no honking). A good mix of representative districts with stately houses and many small galleries, shops, cafes, bistros ... A little more cleanliness with regard to dog poo would make the city even more lovable.
Lyon is a beautiful, lively and varied city, very well served by public transport, with a wide range of cultural activities and surroundings worth seeing. I did not take part in the nightlife, so I cannot give it a rating.
This is one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. Lyon has a vibrant atmosphere and one of the main cities in France. You will get to experience the best aspects of French culture in this city
I primarily enjoyed the park, it is really beautiful and definitely something you have to see, the old parts of the city and the big paintings on many buildings are also really beautiful.
There are many things to see or do but being a big city you have to walk a lot or use public transport. Restoration is a bit more expensive than in other smaller towns in France.
Hard to give accurate picture since the city was quite empty of locals - a great many people had gone on holiday and many venues/shops/museums were closed.
One of the most beautiful cities, where you can discover something new and worth seeing around every corner. Above all, it is historically very diverse.
Overall, Lyon is pretty nice city to study. Local people are much more gentle than I expected and liveable in France. City view is so beautiful.
My mobile phone was stolen. Therefore, one should think carefully about which neighbourhoods of the city one spends time in.

The location, the course schedule, the classmates and the snack that a teacher organized for us on the first Friday.
The school should make an effort in organization adapted to the real levels of the students they receive, in material and audiovisual aids and in the printed material offered to the students to work with.

Q&A - Questions about French courses and schools in Lyon
- I am interested in a 2 week language course as an educational holiday in March. Previous knowledge is between A1 - A2. I am 47 years old and would like to know the age structure of your courses in Lyon.
“Lyon is popular with adults, so the average age outside the holiday season is relatively high at 30. In summer, the average age is slightly younger at 25, as many students study in Lyon. So at 47, you'll meet a few other students your age. I also book a lot of students over 50 or 60, and the teaching team is great at integrating students of different ages and nationalities into the classes.
Another good school is Lyon Bleu International. The age structure in the low season is 35. Slightly older, but this can of course vary from week to week. ”Sabine Krafack, LanguageCourse.Net - Nov 19, 2024Do you offer beginner French group course for 11- and 15-years old kids in Lyon with or without accommodation?“In Lyon, you can consider Live and Study in your teacher's home programme. They offer excellent junior programmes.”Sawsan Zein, LanguageCourse.Net - Apr 26, 2024Where can I get information about public transport in Lyon?“In Lyon you can get around by metro, tram or bus, and of course you can also walk or rent a bike. All information and the local transport itinerary can be found on the TCL website https://www.tcl.fr/en
”Sabine Krafack, LanguageCourse.Net - Jun 13, 2023I am 65 years old. Are there courses suitable for me?“Of course there are suitable 50+ courses .”Sawsan Zein, LanguageCourse.Net - Feb 10, 2023I am looking for a school for my son in Lyon, France.“In Lyon we work with several schools. The minimum age of acceptance for their adult courses varies between 17 and 18, depending on the school, so if your son is already 17 by the time you want him to start the course, and already has some knowledge of French, then he can start the course any Monday of the year. If he is younger than 17, then the only option we can offer is a private course in a teacher's home (Study & Live in your Teacher's Home).”Rubén De Haro, LanguageCourse.Net - Nov 18, 2022FAQ - Frequently asked questions about French courses in Lyon
- I would like to register for the TCF exam
“Unfortunately, we do not have any partner language schools in Lyon offering TCF preparation. Our partner schools offer DELF preparation courses instead.
