Paris ratings & opinions
How our students rated their experience in Paris
What our students said about Paris
Paris is not a clean city and public transportation is not reliable. People are not so friendly on the surface but once they know you they can be very friendly and helpful. Everything is expensive and customer service is not so good. Having said that, this is my 6th time visiting this city and if I didn't like it, I wouldn't have come back here so often. So this city is somewhat attractive but I don't know why. I have to come back here to find out.
For a foreign person who is in a strange place for the first time, a good orientation is always needed, which the school does not provide. It is impossible to enjoy museums, restaurants, nightlife and other important things when nobody explains them to you. You do not know if your life may be in danger because you do not know where you are when you walk or take public transport.
Having visited our son in Paris several times, we have already grown fond of the city and all its facets. We enjoy mingling with the locals away from the tourist crowds, visiting concerts, exhibitions and fine restaurants in the neighbourhoods. There is always something to discover, even if you don't have to visit the Eiffel Tower, Montmatre and Versailles anymore.
Now, with the depreciation of the yen, everything is incredibly more expensive, Compared to 15 years ago, there are more immigrants and the city lost its laid-back, fashionable atmosphere, leaving only the impression of a very busy tourist town. I feel sorry for the tourists who don't know what it used to be.
Beautiful city with a lot of culture and history. I love Paris, and I've been many times but this time I was under the impression that the city is dirtier and with more homeless people than before. The heat was extreme and they are not prepared for it, which was a problem.
I have been to Paris several times and always love it but it can be difficult to get around. Streets aren't always labeled but the people would always try and help direct me. I took the bus to the train station to Paris several times. So many beautiful buildings to see.
Nothing bad to say about beautiful Paris! It's such a delightful city, and the school is wonderfully located, with easy access to everywhere. So many terrific museums, parks, historic places, the opera houses, shops, etc.
Great city, but expensive: eating out, going out, activities, even accommodation. You need a Visa card for almost all activities. Bikes have become expensive - pass for more than three days would be great. It was fun!
Paris is beautiful with the buildings, the streets and the landmarks. However, it is also noisy, dirty, crowded, there is a lot of poverty and the traffic between 07.30h and 20.00h is a disaster!
La ville Lumière what else to say? Arctic climate, and my wallet was stolen after 1 week, although I was very careful. Food for those who stay there a lot can become a problem.

There is only one word for this school: superb! I can recommend it without reservation. The teacher is excellent. The teaching method, the focus on the individual participants and the different teaching materials are really outstanding. The group also benefited from the very nice atmosphere.

Information about Paris
Where better to get to grips with the most romantic language in the world than in the picture perfect capital city of Paris. It is a beautiful city to explore and is very doable by foot, with many of the main attractions running along the River Seine. There are lots of museums and historical monuments to explore including the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe and the Louvre. Food lovers will not be disappointed with over 100 Michelin star restaurants to frequent during your stay. This may not be a surprise considering France's fame around its mouth watering cuisine. Don’t take our word for it, go and visit this magical city for yourself.
Romance is a money making business, with couples willing to spend a lot of money on treating their loved ones. Accommodation options are often small and expensive. Despite it’s romantic connotations, Parisians are renowned for their unfriendliness to tourists. This is especially true for those who do not try to understand their language. This may well be the push you need to practice your French at a faster pace.

Q&A - Questions about French courses and schools in Paris
- I am 16 years old. Can I book an adult course with accommodation in a student residence in Paris?“Dorm/residence accommodation in Paris is available to students aged 18 and over unless you would like to book a typical summer programme for juniors.
”Gosia Mazur, LanguageCourse.Net - Oct 25, 2023I'm looking for a school near arrondissement 14, because I can use my friend's apartment. Do you have nearby schools?“In the 14th, unfortunately I have no partner school to offer you.
On the other hand, I can recommend schools in the 4th, in the 6th, in the 7th, and in the 15th for example.”Melanie Besnard, LanguageCourse.Net - Jun 16, 2023Can you tell me which school has the shortest metro connection from Alesia station?“The nearest school is Étoile Institut de Langue located at 38, boulevard Raspail - 75007 Paris.
Bus from Alésia - Maine to Sèvres - Babylone, then 3 minutes walk.”Melanie Besnard, LanguageCourse.Net - Jun 16, 2023My son (12 years old) and I mother (35 years old) would like to go on a language trip together in France, preferably Paris. He already has French as a subject at school, but has a lot of difficulties with it.“The best school for you in the summer is Bayswater. Your son will be taught in the Young Learner Programme for 10-14 year olds and you will be taught in the adult course. Please note the start dates given on our website. Junior courses run from early July to early August. If you would like to travel outside of this period, we are happy to organize private lessons or look for a suitable school in the south of France.”Sabine Krafack, LanguageCourse.Net - Apr 21, 2023Are there any schools in Paris that offer classes in the evening?“Atelier 9 offers an Evening Course. The course can be booked for 4, 8, or 12 weeks.”Andy Fukutome, LanguageCourse.Net - Apr 16, 2023Do you have any French courses on weekends?“At the time of writing, our partner schools are not offering lessons on weekends. We have options in the morning, afternoon, and evening on weekdays.”Ana Carolina Dos Santos, LanguageCourse.Net - Apr 13, 2023I will be near the Sorbonne University for work and would like to take an intensive course for a week. Can you offer me a suitable school?“In that case, I would recommend the Etoile Istitut de Langue. It's close to the Sorbonne University and offers a 26-lesson course. I'm sure they will enjoy it there and learn a lot during the week! ”Lisa Schiwy, LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 17, 2023Which school in Paris is most suitable for a 47-year-old?“At Atelier 9, the majority of students are in the 27 - 34 age range (a higher range than at other schools), the school accepts students from the age of 18, not 16 like many other schools.”Gosia Mazur, LanguageCourse.Net - Feb 03, 2023Can I register on the phone or do I have to do it online?“We need you to register online in order to be able to process your booking, but we are happy to guide you through the process on the phone if you have any questions.”Louise Granath, LanguageCourse.Net - Dec 19, 2022I have a question about the accommodation. If you are assigned to a group and have the feeling that it is too difficult/easy, always indicate this immediately! Then we can do something about it.”Robin Rebecca Pietersma, LanguageCourse.net - Feb 16, 2022Can you give me advice on which course suits me best? I am 55 years old and speak a little bit of French. I love coming to Paris and would like to combine my visit to the city with learning the language. Of course it is no problem to take lessons with young people, but I would love it if several people over 50 participate in the training.“Unfortunately, there are no schools in Paris that offer specific courses for seniors. We can, however, look at the average age of the students in a school and/or find you a combination course, for example: general course + culture/cooking/art.
We recommend combining the group course with some private lessons. This way you will learn even more within a limited time frame and the private lessons allow you to focus better on not only what you are already good at, but also on the areas where you could use extra support.”Robin Rebecca Pietersma, LanguageCourse.net - Jan 12, 2022FAQ - Frequently asked questions about French courses in Paris
- I would like to attend evening private lessons in Paris. Can any of the schools offer lessons after 18:00 or during the weekend?“The schools close at 17:00 or 18:00 and remain closed during the weekend as well. They can't arrange private lessons after 18:00. ”Angela Ligartova, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Nov 08, 2024I want to learn French for at least half a year. Now I am at the level of A1-A2, and I can start from the beginning of September. I would like to know if you can help me apply for a long-term visa. If I change my mind, how long in advance can I apply for refund? Can I get a full refund?“Please consult the embassy for the information about the visa. We do not assit with the visa application. The school will provide relevant documents as soon as possible after receiving all your fees, so that you can apply for a student visa.
Course cancellation not due to visa refusal:
1. No fees will be refunded once the course begins.
2. If the course has not yet started, the cancellation fee will be applied once the school has provided the documentation, depending on the policy of each school, or you may choose to postpone the start date of the course free of charge.
3. The free cancellation date of the deposit will be explained in an email to you (if this policy applies to the deposit of the school), or you may choose to postpone the use of the deposit.
Course cancellation due to visa refusal:
1. Provide the visa refusal letter to us as soon as possible, and the deposit we collected will be returned in full
2. The school will only charge the minimum administrative fee (the refusal letter should be provided to them 3 weeks before the course starts). Most schools will not charge more than 180 euros in this case. Other schools will reserve the cancellation fee according to their own refund policy and refund the rest.”Susan Wang, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 15, 2023We are moving to Paris this summer and we are looking for a French course for our 14 year-old daughter.
