Location: Krakow is in the South of Poland and close to the borders of Czech Republic and Slovakia. PROLOG School of Polish is situated just outside the city of Krakow. The school is perched on a main road and the immediate vicinity has shops, restaurants and a supermarket.

Getting around: It has excellent public transportation links for the bus and the tram, both within walking distance of their main entrance, which will get you into the city centre in just under 30 minutes.

Local attractions: Once in the city, everything can be explored by foot and for those wanting to save their energy there is a tram service running through the city hotspots. The main square is the heart of the city and home to the Cloth hall, a huge market still in use today and St Mary’s Basilica, a gothic church built in the 14th century. Other things to visit to learn more about the history of the city are the Jewish Quarter and the Wawel Royal Castle, all accessible from the school by tram in under 25 minutes.

School facilities: PROLOG School of Polish is a well established language school. Each classroom is equipped with interactive whiteboards for optimal learning and air conditioning for comfort. As the school is outside the centre of Krakow, there is free parking available. Also available are facilities for in between lessons such as a lounge, a garden, a library, a movie room with movie rental as well as free after-class access to language learning software.

Course material: The course content was created by the school itself and its series of textbooks “HURRAH!!” is available and used by the wider market as an excellent tool for teaching Polish to foreign students. A communicative approach is used throughout the school to encourage students to immerse themselves in the language and practise it both within the classroom and during their free time.

Leisure programmes: To accompany the excellent language courses on offer here, the school also runs social programmes over the weekend to visit the surrounding areas. This is an excellent way to practise your Polish and meet other students from the school.

The teachers are super nice. The level was well organised for me. I didn't feel overwhelmed or underchallenged. The location was very practical. You could reach the city centre in about 10 minutes by tram and supermarkets, pharmacies and much more were just a few minutes' walk away. My room was a 3-minute walk from the school, which was very convenient. The lessons included many activities and dialogues. There was listening comprehension, reading exercises and everyday conversations. What I liked was that everything was taught in Polish. This meant you could quickly get used to the language.
Insider tip: Eating together so that people can socialise.

Quality of teaching / language progress: I thought the course was great and very informative. It was just a shame that only 3 instead of 4 group lessons were offered per day due to the small number of participants.
Other comments Very great school with great teachers.

The teachers are committed and competent. The placement within the groups worked really well. My class consisted of five people and we fit together very well. I learned a lot in the short time and enjoyed the friendly, family atmosphere. Our teacher Sylwia had an answer to every question and lots of great tips for places to see in Krakow. I can highly recommend the school.

Friendly, competent teachers who also tried to make it understandable for non-English speaking participants with the explanations in English. Even with the help of the Internet and mobile phones.

Quality of teaching / language progress: The booked intensive lessons were intensive and yet very interesting and instructive. The afternoon program was tailored to the very young participants and sometimes offered very late or too quickly after class. The Saturday event was canceled completely, so I went to it personally on my own. But as written there were more young participants and they had their program. Otherwise everything is very easy and calls for repetition. But a very big negative point for me personally was that there was a lot of English spoken. Even with the afternoon program. Explanations of the teachers, in English. Greeting in restaurants and shops, English. So I not only learned Polish, but also caught a little bit of English. But by and large, the language trip was worth it and you can recommend it with a clear conscience. I will definitely be back in 2 years and then with the desire to stay with the same host family again.

Friendly staff, very personable teacher, Ewa. Lessons were very well pitched to my level of ability, and well structured for the time I was in Prolog.

Well organised, located on a tram line, pleasant premises and a welcome coffee corner. The groups should be a little more homogeneous.
Disliked
The level groups aren't always homogeneous, and I think it's a shame that the extra private lessons are expensive, especially when you've signed up for 2 weeks. It would be nice if they could be increased from 45 minutes to an hour. Marcin is very nice, but he's not very good at organising things: for example, for Auchwitz and the Schindler museum, despite several requests, we ended up managing on our own...

Other comments Unfortunately I have to be honest here. There were two issues that gave me cause for concern. The first is that I was messed about with my choice of accommodation. I originally selected dates in July with the option for private accommodation organised by the school. I was told several days later that this option was no longer available on my chosen dates so I changed my dates accordingly and proceeded to book flights. Less than two weeks before the course commenced I was told that the accommodation was actually not available for my chosen dates after all and was offered a room with a family which I point blank refused. I haven't lived with my own family in sixteen years and definitely didn't want to live with strangers for a week in their family home. Then suddenly they did find me a room in an apartment with other students on the course which turned out to be absolutely fantastic and in a great location. The other issue is that on the first day of the course we were informed that we would be having no lessons on Wednesday 15th August as this was a public holiday. As I only signed up to a week this meant that essentially 20% of my lesson time was lost. I enquired about this and asked if I could receive a partial refund of the course fee and they refused. At no point before the commencement of the course did anyone communicate to me that there would be no lessons on this day nor did I know it was a public holiday in Poland. This would make me think twice about going back to this school again.
