Intensive General English
Standard Course Monday to Friday plus afternoon classes on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
On the Intensive English Course, you will follow the same programme as the Standard Course in the mornings. You will also have afternoon classes, in which you will have the opportunity to further improve your communicative proficiency through discussions, roleplays and topical debates.
Morning lessons are divided into two parts, usually taught by two different teachers (UK & Ireland). These lessons help to build your knowledge of the language, focusing primarily on helping you increase your vocabulary and improving your grammar so that you reach the levels of accuracy you need. Lessons also work on improving your overall communicative skills and fluency. Of course, you will also work on specific pronunciation difficulties and expand the range of language you use in real-life situations.
In the afternoons, you will practise and expand on the language you have learnt in the morning, with a strong focus on listening, reading, speaking and writing skills through discussions, role plays, video work and listening exercises. Depending on availability, there is also the possibility to study for an examination (IELTS, Cambridge FCE etc.) and practice key exam skills, or the Business English option will help you manage your language skills for work.
Afternoon lessons take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to allow you two afternoons per week to explore the city, or to take part in the school's social programme.
The Intensive English programme is perfect for students who are in a hurry to improve! CES's modern teaching methods and use of supplementary materials give you the best opportunity to build your language skills and maximise the benefits of the time you spend with the school.
General English Course GE20
Students joining ATC’s General English language course will learn English in an international class with students from around the world. The course is designed to focus on communication and improve the students’ understanding of the four key skills of English language focusing on communication; listening, speaking, reading and writing, as well as developing grammar and vocabulary skills. Students can begin each Monday through the year on a continuous enrolment system.
All levels of English from Elementary to Advanced are offered throughout the year. Students can choose to study for a minimum of 1 week.
ATC’s General English course syllabus is 20 hours per week, with full 60 minute lessons. By the end of the course students will see an overall improvement in their level of English and improved confidence in their language ability.
Standard General English
The Standard General English course is the most in-demand course that CES offers their students, mainly due to offering an ideal weekly commitment of 20 hours of lessons that guarantees participants’ steady progression over the weeks and months - all without taking up too much of your time. Each lesson lasts for 55 minutes at their Dublin location, which is the longest that CES provides.
You can expect your morning classes to be delivered by two different teachers. Grammar and accuracy are usually worked on separately from their more conversation-oriented lessons, as their priority is to make sure that students are able to use grammar structures accurately before putting them to use.
There are a total of 7 level groups that you may be assigned to, ranging from Beginner all the way up to Proficiency.
This is the most popular course in all CES schools. The Standard General English Course takes place every morning from Monday to Friday, leaving you free to join the Social Programme or study on the CES Online e-learning platform and in the Self- Access facilities every afternoon.
Your morning lessons are divided into two parts, usually taught by two different teachers (UK & Ireland). Lessons concentrate on building your knowledge of the language, focusing primarily on helping you increase your vocabulary and improving your grammar so that you attain the levels of accuracy you require. Afternoon lessons take place on Tuesday and Thursday.
Course takes place Monday to Friday, 09:00 - 13:30. Afternoon classes are Tuesday and Thursday, 14:15 - 17:15.

EC English in Dublin attracts students from all over the world for their General English courses, thanks to their team of experienced and professional tutors who deliver carefully planned lessons for all levels, from beginners to advanced students.
Each of the four main language skills (Listening, Speaking, Writing and Reading) are given equal importance, and will all be worked on evenly.
Since your weekly classes only add up to 15 hours in total, you will have more than enough time for exploring Dublin’s nightlife, entertainment, and general friendly atmosphere from the Irish locals.
On the General English course, you attend a core of 20 lessons per week, which will give you a practical understanding of the English language and take you all the way to fluency. The General English course focuses on all of the skills necessary when learning a second language, which include: Speaking and listening, pronunciation, Reading and Writing, and Grammar and Vocabulary.

You will have the opportunity to study either English or Gaelic in your teacher’s home. The timetable has to be agreed upon with your teacher, but overall you will take 15 hours of personalised one-to-one classes every week. These lessons are based on the topics and grammar rules that you personally want to study the most.

General English Standard
The General English classes concentrate on improving every aspect of your English. Our approach is to provide a stimulating and highly-interactive environment in which you can develop your language skills.
We firmly believe in developing each student’s language ability so that you are able to develop as quickly and effectively as possible. In any typical week, you will work on developing and improving all language skill areas, with a focus on active communication skills in real-life situations.

General English
The course covers the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing with special emphasis on the spoken word. Teaching techniques such as information gap activities, simulations, role plays, discussions and debates provide opportunities for gaining fluency in the language.
Our standard course focuses on spoken production and interaction. Students are aware of clear learning outcomes through a weekly course plan which integrates all four language skills. There is a focus on English for Culture through a weekly session on contemporary Irish themes in an international environment. Language skills are developed through communication in a truly multilingual environment. Weekly tutorials are available to help students meet their individual learning outcomes. Our experienced teachers provide stability in the learning process as they stay with a group throughout a syllabus helping them to meet their purpose in learning English, be that personal, social, professional or academic.
Some students like to keep the afternoons free for relaxation, self-study, getting to know Dublin, mixing with other students and participating in extra-curricular activities organised by the school.
The school is very happy for students to spend their free time in the school either doing extra work on their English or using the school’s facilities.
Full-time classes are small and in autumn and winter averages 9 or 10 students. The courses cover the 4 skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing with special emphasis on the spoken word. Each week, guided by a general topic, you practise speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in a warm and friendly environment. The lessons start with clear weekly goals, and include a monthly one-to-one session with your teacher to work on your own individual learning plan. You will have regular progress assessments and feedback, guided by your SELT learning portfolio.

General English Fluency
Each day the class is divided into two sessions:
- Morning Session A 9:00 to 11:00
- Morning Session B 11:30 to 13:10
Sessions A and B are taught by different teachers to give you exposure to a variety of accents and teaching styles. Classic Morning
‘Build confidence, work hard and have fun - Lay the foundation for fluency’
The General English programme develops your English language and communication skills, giving you the confidence and ability to function in everyday situations. Through a communicative approach, you will practise your listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. There are also many opportunities to learn these skills in a variety of ‘real-life’ situations. You will also be able to improve your pronunciation and develop your grammar and vocabulary range.
English Path offers six levels of General English Courses from Beginner to Advanced. Our Beginner level class accepts students with very little exposure to English. The General English semi intensive course is 20 lessons in the morning or the afternoon plus one extra lesson per day (e.g. functional language/pronunciation/writing/authentic listening/speaking and discussion) The additional lesson builds on language from the main sessions with a focus on a particular area e.g. writing or functional English for real-life situations.
The General English programme develops your English language and communication skills, giving you the confidence and ability to function in everyday situations. Through a communicative approach, you will practise your listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. With General English Semi-intensive Courses, there are also many opportunities to learn these skills in a variety of ‘real-life’ situations. You will also be able to improve your pronunciation and develop your grammar and vocabulary range from a General English Intensive - 40 Course.
English Path offers six levels of General English Courses from Beginner to Advanced. Our Beginner level class accepts students with very little exposure to English. For example, students who have not yet acquired a single word. No one’s level is too low. Lower level students may also choose to increase their progress by taking additional 1-1 classes. In contrast, our Advanced General English class is for students with high level communicative skills. Some students may also consider an intensive course to accelerate their learning or go on to study an examination preparation course. General English with IELTS Exam Preparation
IELTS is currently the most well-recognised exam for those who want to study at an English-speaking university or college (or pursue a career path using English). The programme is relevant for any learner who intends to work or study in English in a formal context. Students will be able to choose between a 4, 8 or 12-week programme, ideally to be completed just before the proposed exam date. Students will be supported throughout their preparation period inside and outside of the classroom. Students have access to an official IELTS examiner at Linguaviva to do mock exams.

While taking the Semi-Intensive programme from Kaplan, you will take a total of 27 lessons per week. This involves a greater time commitment than that of the General Course, but the school offers in exchange the guarantee that your rate of English development will improve even faster as a result.
You will be assigned to a group according to the placement test that the school will ask you to take before getting started. Many schools only perform one level check, but Kaplan prefers to provide a new test every 5 weeks in order to continually monitor students’ progress.

English is now the international language of the business world. People working in business need a sound knowledge of the language of meetings, presentations, negotiations and sales and an ability to understand and develop business reports. Our full-time, 15 hour per week Business English course responds to these needs, offering students 1 – 12 weeks of targeted practice in key business topics. Each week there is a new topic, with a different focus and associated vocabulary and grammar. Students may also take an extra 5 or 10 electives in complimentary areas such as grammar and writing, pronunciation and conversation fluency. The programme is designed for students with a B2-C1 level of English.

Babel Academy summer school takes place from the start of July to the end of August in the beautiful Dublin suburb of Raheny. All the teachers I met were highly motivated and organised their lessons in a variety of exciting but always very professional manner. All available media were used.
