Academic English
Academic English Program - 30 lessons per week.
The FLS Academic English Program is perfect for the student who wants to improve their English skills as quickly as possible and get on the right track for college and university success! This program offers the most lessons per week available at FLS. Students are able to enrol in the full range of courses offered.
The program includes the core English class and two electives. Students in the Academic
English Program also has access to our Test Preparation courses (TOEFL, SAT).
SAT Preparation Course
The Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) is the most common exam to test the standard of students entering American Colleges or Universities. This intensive course of 36 lessons (30 hours) per week will ensure that you are suitably prepared for the exam. 18 lessons will be on core English, 12 lessons are centred on preparation for the test and 6 will be on an academic workshop. Students work with an experienced instructor to improve their SAT skills of Critical Reading, Writing and Mathematics. Practice exams allow instructors to analyse students’ abilities and familiarize students with the test format and strategies.
Standardized tests are a critical step on the road to success for most international students. Many universities, graduate programs, and employers require these tests as part of their application process. The program includes one core class, two hours of test preparation, and one academic workshop. Each course provides the student with the necessary skills and practice to achieve success on the chosen exam.
Intensive English
Our popular Intensive English Program offers a well-rounded learning experience for students who have varied English goals, allowing students access to a wide range of FLS electives in order to provide a more versatile experience. The program includes the core English class and one elective.
General English
General English Program - 18 lessons per week.
For those looking for a part-time study option, their Core English Program offers the perfect schedule, blending the study of English fundamentals with ample time to experience the many local attractions and destinations. The program includes one core class. This program is not available to students on an F-1 Visa
General English 30
This course consists of 20 general English lessons and 10 special focus lessons per week. The student can choose from the following options: speaking with confidence, real-life listening, expand your vocabulary, and global awareness.
During the General English 30 course you will improve at a quicker pace. A combination of General English and a selection of specially focused classes will allow you to gain greater fluency and accuracy more quickly.

By taking 20 classes per week with EC Boston’s General English course, you will work on taking your Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking skills to the next level. Boston may not be as frantic and metropolitan as other cities in the United States, but it is still a major city with plenty of attractions and activities to get involved in during your free time. Standard 20
During the lessons you rapidly improve your communication skills in a variety of everyday situations. In 2 lessons each day you will cover the following areas: grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation. In a further 2 lessons you concentrate on: speaking, listening, reading, writing. You use a textbook in conjunction with a wide variety of materials and exercises including roleplays, authentic materials, newspapers and magazines.
Intensive 25
The school concentrates on all the areas that you need to achieve a much greater fluency in a short period of time. This course is suitable for students who wish to study intensively and get well-rounded insight into the language and country.

Academic English
Academic English consists of General English with a focus on key academic skills and exam preparation. The programme includes regular, focused grammar and vocabulary reviews, which allows students to target their individual language needs while developing their academic reading and writing skills.
Recommended start dates: First Monday of January, April and September.
Spend up to a year abroad, achieve a high level of fluency in your chosen language and make new friends from all over the world. This programme differs from shorter courses because students receive a greater level of academic support and management, including two additional weekly sessions with a teacher. It offers regular testing, academic counselling and assistance with university placement.
An individual study plan is designed for you to suit your level, individual aims and the duration of your course.
General English - Tourist Visa
You will join multi-national language classes following a syllabus closely mapped to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, covering key language domains, skills and competencies appropriate to your level of ability.

Boston is a city perhaps most famous for its passionate baseball fanbase, the Boston Marathon, and the Freedom Trail. Less known is that Boston is a walkable city that permits residents to easily get around, and offers a good quality of life for those who reside here. Prospective students for HLI’s home tuition course can expect to undertake 15 hours of one-to-one private lessons per week, all while living in their teacher’s Boston home.
You will find yourself immersed in your language studies as well as the inevitable interaction that you’ll have with Boston residents as you walk around the city doing your errands and taking in the sights and sounds. Be prepared for Boston residents to interrogate you on which sports teams are your favourites, as this is a central part of the city’s culture!

Classic Course
Students will take part in 15 hours of English language lessons per week. Lessons are topic based and designed to be fun, energetic and informative. They enable students to use their English in real world situations and increase their confidence.
The school offers a variety of onsite activities including sports, arts and crafts and team games. The activities provide opportunities for students to use the English they have learnt and make international friends.

The General English course consists of 20 lessons per week and is designed to help you to develop your English skills, and at the same time leave you with enough spare time that you can fully engage with Boston if you are staying as a visitor to the city. The approach of the classes focuses on the four main areas of language development: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. As the name of the course suggests, English will be developed in a general sense, allowing you to make use of your new skills in as diverse a range of circumstances as possible.
Class sizes tend to be of 12 participants, but with a maximum of 15. These small groups facilitate communication between the students and their teachers, which is proven to enhance academic performance. The school may occasionally organise days out for you and your peers, so get ready to put your English skills to the test in real situations!

Semi-Intensive English
This Semi-Intensive English course consists of the General English course combined with 7 lessons of online teacher-led study sessions totalling 27 lessons per week. The content focuses on reading, writing, listening, conversation, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation through an integrated skills approach. This includes access to K+ Online complementary learning materials as well as access to teacher-led study sessions with guidance and monitoring and access to K+ Online Extra additional learning materials for self-directed study.
The Semi-Intensive English course is a semi-intensive program that allows you to balance classroom tuition with structured study and free time activities. You will improve your English language ability at a speed you feel comfortable with, while having time to enjoy your destination.

Intensive English Course
The Intensive English Program (IEP) offers an immersive and consistent platform to improve your English language at an accelerated pace.
There are 6 levels of instruction, each level includes a Grammar and Integrated Skills class. Each class has its own corresponding book and curriculum.
In the Grammar class, the focus is on useful structures and natural application in practical contexts.
In the Integrated class, you will concentrate on building confidence and greater fluency in all language skills with socially relevant, topical themes.
Summer Camp
The Boston centre is located on the beautiful campus of the prestigious Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, only 20 minutes to the historic city centre, and moments away from Cambridge. Excursions & Activities All our programmes include a variety of full day and half day excursions, and students also have the opportunity to take part in additional trips (known as optional excursions) if they want to explore the locality further.
When not out on excursions, we also offer our students a wide range of activities to enjoy. These activities vary differently from centre to centre and are very much dependent on the facilities available to us, but in general we always try to include a range of sporting and non-sporting events as well as larger, whole school, evening activities such as discos, karaoke and cultural quizzes.

The ELC Summer Junior Program in Boston gives students the unique opportunity to live and study English in state-of-the-art facilities, located in the heart of Boston. During July and August, students enrolled in our Summer Junior Program in Boston will live in a university dormitory. Summer Junior Program students will take English classes in the mornings. On the weekends, students will be able to participate in optional Saturday activities and an included full-day excursion on Sunday.
