The school is very well located, I really liked the facilities and above all the friendliness of the staff and the professionalism of the teachers.

Negative aspects

I didn't like that they didn't take into account the placement test I had taken a few months before. They only went by how well I spoke French. They put me in A1 and the next day I asked for a change to A2 because in A1 they put me with people who didn't know any French and that's not my case. I even took the level test of the free TV5 Monde course recommended by the French government and they gave me a B2 level.

According to the information provided, access to IT rooms, but this was not possible when asked twice. Afternoon programme good, but only one more or less interesting activity per week. The location of the school was okay, but the host family was far away, so I either had to wait for the fast hourly bus (21 min) or take the tram for about 45 min

Accommodation

Super friendly, generous and very, very committed hostess, who also took me on excursions (St Emilion, Dune de Pilar...) and integrated me into her life. I learnt French well as a result and that more than made up for everything else.

Friendly, good teachers. Take their time and provide good explanations. Nice atmosphere in the lessons! Fun activities offered.

Negative aspects

During the course they do not check whether you can go to a higher level. You must indicate this yourself. Then you are not guaranteed that you will receive lessons at the desired level. It was not possible to go from A1 to A2. I was placed in B1, which was a bit too difficult. Fortunately, a nice teacher who took time for questions and explanations.

Accommodation

Excellent host family. Friendly host and great room. Easily accessible by public transport.

Nice study group, the possibility to eat lunch at the school together with other participants.

Negative aspects

Rooms, frontal teaching, I was there for 2 weeks, unfortunately I had lessons with the same teacher both weeks. I was very disappointed that there was no change. In the mornings there was a lot of emphasis on free conversation, but there was hardly any correction, so I don't have the feeling that I have learned anything. The conversation does not have to be interrupted, which is detrimental to the flow of speech, but I would have liked corrections afterwards.

The teachers are fantastic, professional, responsive to the needs of the students. All the staff care about the students. There was a good atmosphere in the school. I loved that you didn't have to buy a book, we learned online and through other documents. There was a lot of conversation during the lessons.

A bit small room for 10-12 people.

Very pleasant, nice, helpful townspeople, easy to communicate with. Beautiful, and quite clean city. The public transport is very well organised.

My accommodation was quite close to the school, 15-20 mins walk at a good pace, or 5-6 mins by tram, 3 stops. The tram stop was right in front of the school! The landlady was a very nice woman who took care of me a lot when I needed help.

Bordeaux is a very good city to travel to, it offers a lot of activities and there are many places nearby to visit. Unfortunately when I was there it was very hot and it was difficult to do things during the day because it was very oppressive together with the humidity. Still the experience was very positive.

I had several friendly, competent teachers and was able to make progress in my French. The individual lessons were excellent.

Negative aspects

During a stay of 4 weeks, I only had 2 weeks of lessons that corresponded to my level of proficiency. At first I was in A1, then changed to an A2 group at my request. This group consisted of 5-8 learners. In my 4th week, more learners were assigned to this group, so that up to 15 people attended the classes and the level dropped. This affected my learning. The newdeal premises were cramped, poorly ventilated, dark. Overall, the school made a rather unkempt impression. Apart from the teachers, most of the staff gave an indifferent, uninterested impression. I couldn't take part in any leisure activities because of my timetable. In any case, there was only one activity per week.

It was an interesting stay and I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't do another language course there.

As the afternoon courses were held in smaller groups, it was actually more intensive work and questions/suggestions for topics were dealt with more specifically.

Accommodation

I stayed with a family on the outskirts of Bordeaux. It was pleasant overall, we had a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. The hosts were interested in me, but also gave me space. I enjoyed being able to use their garden. The relatively long way was outweighed by the quieter rural atmosphere. The meals were okay.

Enthusiastic and driven. Sympathetic people. Cheers to Emmanuelle. Professional and patient. And she knows exactly where it is missing. She hears everything. I was amazed at how she could immediately understand all the accents/dialects among students etc. Great teacher. Received good advice. Fast pace. Not a moment is boring. I would do it again.

The crowds outside. The hustle and bustle of the city is exhausting. But that's on me.

Insider tips about what future students should not miss

Instead of an activity at 6:00 pm: cheese and wine with other students, I would opt for lunch together. Why? Because I was tired from the intensive classes in the afternoon and didn't feel like going back to school at 6:00 pm for a social activity. I went back to the host family every day after school and then went to sleep.

Host family Marc and Marion are also very friendly, helpful, attentive and involved. Fun people.

Bad organisation in terms of knowing what course each is on, holidays a bit confusing because there weren't that many au pairs.
