Lisbon ratings & opinions
How our students rated their experience in Lisbon
What our students said about Lisbon
Lisbon is a light-filled inviting wonderful city with many fantastic perspectives. Tejo and the proximity to the Atlantic are simply enviable. The openness, friendliness and warmth of the Lisboetas - despite the vast numbers of tourists - is deeply impressive. Only the bawling groups of bachelor parties of all sexes are unbearable! Let's hope that Lisbon does not turn into a cheap party mile... This city and the Lisboetas do not deserve that!
A great city, with a very beautiful old town. Unfortunately, many others have already discovered this :-). It is very crowded. You can easily reach a lot on foot and everything else very cheaply by metro, bus, train or Uber. I really enjoyed living outside, close to the school, so I also got to know the "non" touristy Lisboa. I am still thrilled and it was definitely not the last time.
Lisbon has a special soul and it can be found in every corner through the countless "pastelaria" and "jardim" with kiosks and seating options....Simply beautiful and cosy. The city is a mass of contrasts and offers so much to discover! I am thrilled!
A very beautiful city. I would personally avoid Lisbon in summer as there are so many tourists in the city. The sights and food, as well as the friendliness of the locals, are a delight.
Lisbon is a beautiful city. There are just a lot of streets that go uphill and that can be a bit tiring after a while. Especially when it's 36 degrees.
Lisbon is an attractive and appealing place with a special flair. Here you can feel comfortable. The climate is still pleasant even in November.
The best city I have visited !!! Small capital, full of charm, lots of things to do in the city and in the surrounding area. Amazing experience.
I know Lisbon from many previous visits, we have a flat nearby. That's why I'll skip this part of the evaluation.
Amazing place! Would now live there if had the chance. Locals so friendly, trusting and helpful
Lots of fun, and interesting, but expensive (none of the museums and galleries are free).

Super nice staff and teachers/ great atmosphere and good organisation of the groups

Course: Intensive Group Course - 4 weeks

I would have liked to give a sixth star for the quality of the teaching. Both in the mornings (lessons from the book) and in the afternoons (consolidation, communication), the teachers were of the highest standard. The exchange with the other students (from Canada and France) was also very interesting.

Q&A - Questions about Portuguese courses and schools in Lisbon
- I am looking for a Portuguese course with a flexible timetable, because I work.“In order to be able to tell you which is the best option for you, could you tell us what your timetable is from Monday to Friday? The group courses are normally in the mornings, but if you tell us from what time you can come to the school, we can see what options are available.
”Rubén De Haro, LanguageCourse.Net - Sep 06, 2024I would be grateful if you could help me to choose which option you consider better, a family home or sharing a flat with other students?
“The schools we work with offer a wide range of accommodation (homestay, single or shared rooms in flats or residences, etc.). Homestay is the most recommended option for a true language immersion experience, and if you also take into account that in most cases half or full board is also included, you will have the opportunity to continue practising the language around the dinner table, and you will learn much more about the local culture and traditions.”Rubén De Haro, LanguageCourse.Net - Aug 09, 2024Are there courses starting in the first or second week of June?“Yes absolutely, it is possible to start your course at the beginning of June. Subject to availability.”Melanie Besnard, LanguageCourse.Net - May 12, 2023I would like to take a course in Lisbon. In which language will the classes be held? In English?“Lessons at the schools in Lisbon are taught in Portuguese from the very beginning. They are designed to be intuitive, so that you can get to grips with the language right from the start. In extreme emergencies, individual things are explained in English.”Lisa Schiwy, LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 17, 2023I am very specifically looking for a language course in Lisbon that focuses on "older" people. I will be 51 and would like to take classes with people of about the same age if possible - preferably not with very young people. Are there any language courses that focus specifically on that?“In Lisbon you can study and live in your teacher's home with the Study & Live organisation. This is one of the best possible options for learning a language quickly. You stay with the teacher and his/her family, allowing you to practice the language throughout the day. Even when you eat, as all meals are included. You can choose the number of lessons per week, and all lessons are private lessons with your teacher. So you can fully focus on your interests and make yourself even more powerful in mastering the language.
If this is not an option for you, perhaps we can look at schools in Lisbon with a higher average age in general Portuguese courses:
CIAL Centro de Linguas, for example, has an average age of 25 during the summer months and 35 during the rest of the year.
Portuguese Connection, for example, has an average age of 26 during the summer months and 30 during the rest of the year.
What you can also do is a mixed group course in the morning and some private lessons in the afternoon that you can really focus there on what you need.
Let us know if we can help you decide!”Robin Rebecca Pietersma, LanguageCourse.Net - Jan 02, 2023FAQ - Frequently asked questions about Portuguese courses in Lisbon
- Is there a group Summer Camp programme for 14 year olds in Lisbon?“Only Home Language International offers the junior summer camp in Lisbon, and it's a one-to-one instruction while living in a teacher's home”Susan Wang, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 13, 2023We are currently looking for a native English teacher in Lisbon for an 8-years old student. Do you offer private lessons?“All of our teachers are native English speakers and it is possible to arrange individual lessons for an 8-years old student.
