The other students were by far my favorite part of the experience. Very international and relatively young (~22-25). Although a bit more expensive than Egyptian hostels, I would recommend a room at Ahlan. At least there are no employees from the school living in Orabi St. and there is a very relaxed atmosphere. People do a lot together, help each other with homework (yes homework) and there is the possibility to walk to school together in the morning.
The quality of the teaching is very good. All teachers (mostly female) speak good English and are very competent. The only drawback is that at Ahlan you always have the feeling that the school wants to make an extra profit. In summary, they offer Egyptian service at European prices. Sadly, neither the teachers nor the local management are well paid. Would also advise against organized tours with Ahlan. Prices for buses and hotels are doubled (literally) and there is hardly any co-determination. If possible, just organize something with a few students. Living and traveling in Egypt is extremely cheap.
