Location: Linguaschools Barcelona is located in the majestic Catalan city of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Housed in the heart of the city centre, to the right of the Eixample neighbourhood and within a 5-minute walk of Plaza Catalunya, the school is close to shops, restaurants, supermarkets, eateries, links to public transport, the beach, and many of the city's attractions. Attractions and sites of interest within walking distance of the school include Barceloneta beach, Las Ramblas, Passeig de Gracia, the Arc de Triomf, Ciutadella Parc and several of architect Antoni Gaudi's buildings, such as Casa Milá, Casa Batlló and La Sagrada Familia.
Course selection: In addition to General Spanish courses available to students of all levels and taught over various schedules and intensities, the school also provides courses in Exam Preparation (DELE, SIELE), University pathways, and private tuition.
Social and cultural: Barcelona is a unique city of art, history, culture and beach-side attractions.
Getting around: The school is well situated, within walking distance of metro, train and bus networks. The closest metro station to the school is Passeig de Gràcia which is within a 450m walk of the school's front doors. There are several bus stops and routes close to the school. The city centre is well travelled and experienced on foot, metro, taxi or bus. Scooter and bicycle rentals are also readily available near the school.

Special note for 2025 holiday season: If you plan to take a course during the high season months of April, June, July or August 2025 we urgently advise you to book as early as possible. In 2024 many schools were fully booked during the holidays and the situation is unlikely to be different for 2025 due to a current shortage of teachers, which affects most schools.

The Intensive courses take place in groups of a maximum of 10 students, with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and nationalities. These small groups will ultimately have you speaking more Spanish, as you will feel encouraged and more comfortable participating verbally with your teacher and your colleagues.
You will cover all areas of Spanish, including vocabulary building, grammar, oral expression, listening, writing, and reading. The classes are typically in the mornings but may be in the afternoon depending on circumstances. Please consult Linguaschools for confirmation.

“Easy to book, quick replies to e-mails before starting the course, easy to complete the online pre-course level test and the oral tests for all of the students were done on the first morning quickly enough that none of us lost any teaching time on the first day, good quality of teaching, friendly teachers and administration staff, textbooks provided free of charge and you can keep these when you leave, nice terrace at the front of the school and nice rooftop terraces, good WiFi, snacks and drinks available to purchase at reception, plenty of places to get food and drink nearby, central location, during the winter (I went in January) organized social / cultural activities offered on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings (which I think is relatively good for a winter programme), classes had a good range of students of different ages and nationalities”
“Class sizes relatively large (my first class had 13 people and on the second day I moved into a class of 11 - I moved because I was put into a class with too low a level initially), most of the social / cultural activities were cancelled (5/6 in the 2 weeks I was there) as they wanted a minimum of 5 students to sign up and not enough people signed up”

“Reception staff were polite, but gave contradictory or even incorrect information. The Barceloneta classroom was reverberant as there were no materials to absorb the room sound. Results of the required online written tests were only given out on request and only the answers were cryptic. The questions were missing and therefore errors were not comprehensible. I felt it was a bit far from the city centre, however (it was near Joanic metro station), but had I rented a bike it wouldn't have felt as far. That being said, there was a market directly outside my front door and a Lidl on the next street, which was very convenient! "

"Friendly host and the breakfast he made was good but I was disappointed that I was not allowed to use the kitchen to cook supper for myself - I did not realize that I needed to specifically ask for a host that allows this as in the past with Homestays in other cities I have done this was always allowed. I will know this for future Homestays. The host did offer to let me use the washing machine."

"Nurea cooked amazing meals and was very attentive. The room was small and comfortable. There was a cabinet for my clothes and 2 drawers in the shower. I was there during the summer so it was hot and uncomfortable without a fan or A/C. The balcony was outside my door and the garbage smell was strong. I was instructed to use the water very sparingly and turn off the shower while I use the soap. The location is not in the best neighbourhood and a bit far from the school and the major sites. Nurea was kind to do my laundry for me the day before I left. I spent 4 nights at her home. "

"The school only outsources to commercial housing companies.
The location and basic facilities are reasonable for the price.
Throughout my course, however, I had a rather negative experience in terms of living together (you shouldn't have false expectations here, as it was very much a case of living past each other without any real consideration for the flatmates in terms of tidiness, cleanliness, noise, etc.). In addition, my room had several defects (air conditioning did not work, door was a glass door that was semi-transparent). On explicit request (complaint was passed on by the school) at least the door was repaired. In return, however, the rental company insisted on a late check-in fee, which could certainly have been waived as a gesture of goodwill. Conclusion: the basic facilities (possibility of a single room with your own bed) and location of the flats is a definite plus point in favour of this option, but living together is just as (...anonnym practical?) in a hostel shared room. At the end of the day, it's still the commercial letting companies that want to make a profit. "

- I am looking for a way to get my language level officially recognised. Now of course there is DELE, but my institution also gave two other options:
(b) Certificado oficial de nivel avanzado (nivel B2) de español para extranjeros, expedido conforme a lo previsto en el artículo 61 de la Ley Orgánica 2/2006, de 3 de mayo, de Educación, por las Escuelas Oficiales de Idiomas.
(c) Certificado de Aptitud en español para extranjeros expedido por las Escuelas Oficiales de Idiomas.
Do you know what kind of certificates these are and the procedure to obtain them?“The DELE exam is the official exam taken through the Instituto Cervantes. Students have to apply for this exam themselves through the Cervantes website. It can be taken in Spain and around the world. It is an internationally recognised exam that costs between 130-200 euros depending on the level. It usually takes about 2-3 months to get the results for this exam and the registration period is usually 6-8 weeks before the exam date.
For the second option, I am not sure if we would count or not - there are schools called 'Escuela Oficial de Idiomas' where you can take a course and therefore receive a certificate at the end. We are an Instituto Cervantes-approved school, but we are not the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas.
