My week at Lamda was amazing. The staff were all very enthusiastic and incredibly helpful. Everything exceeded my expectations. I wish I could have stayed more than a week and I hope to return again. It was a great experience from start to finish. I felt very welcomed and supported. I was taught in a class of four (including me) in the mornings for four hours and on my own in the afternoons for two hours. In between I attend fun activities open to all students. I cannot recommend this course more highly. If you are learning Greek, I would suggest going to the theatre in Athens in the evenings. It was inexpensive and a great way to get another two hours of Greek a day. I went to six plays in Greek. By the end of the week I was totally exhausted but in a very positive way.
Disliked
I liked it all.
Insider tip: Live theatre.

The teachers were super committed and motivated and always in a super good mood; their good humour was really infectious. The classes were very small, in the first three days there were even only two of us. You could ask anything and every question was answered in detail. The classes were also mixed in terms of age. At first I was a little worried that I would only be sitting around with twenty-year-olds. In my class, the age range was from 18 to 68 and very international. The school is in a beautifully renovated traditional house with an open patio in a quiet pedestrian street in Exarchia with all the cafes and pubs around it. During breaks, there's coffee and biscuits and Greek music. I immediately felt at home. :-)
Disliked
This is not a criticism, just an observation: it's going very fast! Four hours of lessons a day plus "activities" plus homework plus learning vocabulary - that's practically a full-time job and very exhausting. The younger students in my course felt the same way. In the second week, I skipped the activities, which - in the beautiful Saloni! - often consisted of conversation. I was overwhelmed with that. In a word, sometimes I would have liked more repetition and a slower pace. (But then I probably wouldn't have the A1 diploma now) ;-)
Insider tip: Be sure to join the Whatsapp group. You get to know people and get tips.

Quality of teaching / language progress: I learned a lot and was able to speak a lot.
Other comments A good, very reputable language school, but, as I said: It's not a holiday with a bit of Greek learning. It's learning Greek with a little holiday :-)

It is an excellent language school! The teaching team is super professional, friendly, kind, didactic and you are always in a friendly and very pleasant atmosphere. The teaching method is very good and they use different teaching alternatives such as games, discussions on topics of Greek culture, watching films and sharing ideas. The weeks I spent there were one of the most enriching experiences of my life and I plan to come back.

I liked the environment, how they have programmed the study system, the rotation of teachers. The teachers are excellent. There are two teachers that I really liked the way they taught, this does not disqualify any other teacher because they are all excellent. They make the classes very enjoyable, which, in my opinion, increases the student's interest in learning in general.
Disliked
I have no complaints. All the people involved in the daily work of the school were excellent and always willing to help.
Insider tip: No, because we are all different with different interests, I cannot generalize; it is very personal.

Very nice teachers. Entertaining lessons that always went by far too quickly. Nice welcome pack with book, exercise book, pen, carrier bag and water bottle. It's great that the standard course, including the leisure activities, already counts as educational leave ("Bildungsurlaub").
Disliked
It was a pity that the leisure activities were often cancelled due to low participation, but the school can't help that.

I liked everything! the location, the street, the building, and the teachers. Everyone was equally enthusiastic. The agency in the Netherlands was also super informative. I'm going back... I think in February.
Disliked
Maybe a little more 'hammering' on the basics regarding grammar. It is an individual thing. You can overcome this with a private lesson on the first day. Do it!
Insider tip: Don't miss anything... explore the area and the city a lot.

Wonderful teachers. Teachers who really want to help you. The atmosphere is great and the teachers are very friendly and make sure that the lessons are fun and that you get on well with each other.
Disliked
Unfortunately, the activities are fun, but firstly all the students, even those with more experience, take part, which is why you can't join in as a beginner and there's no point in taking part. Secondly, I would have liked to go on excursions with the teachers. There are none at all.

Excellent teachers, small classes, good course book. Interaction at break times. I did not have time to join in the activities so cannot provide a rating for this.
Disliked
In the first week the lessons move at a very fast pace with little time for practice and consolidation. In the second week there was more time for students to practice dialogues, questions and answers and simple conversations together.
Insider tip: If you are a complete beginner make sure that you have at least learned the alphabet before joining the course.

The Lamda Project

“The Lamda Project was founded in May 2018 in Athens, an ancient city with historical roots, as an effort to spread the Modern Greek culture worldwide. We offer modern Greek language classes, as well as the opportunity to choose between several different options related to Greek history and culture (Greek philosophy, ancient Greek, Greek mythology, Greek historical figures). Our school is located at the centre of Athens and our aim is to merge the past with the present…to learn the actual local language/culture/society.”

Adults - Free activities

The school's main goal for their students is that they should learn the culture and the actual local life, so activities focus on that specific purpose: deepening the students' understanding of authentic Greek life. The school offers the most complete cultural and language immersion package: Courses, cultural activities, and tandem language exchange with locals for gaining the full learning experience.

Weekly activities schedule:
- Monday: conversational skills
- Tuesday: cultural workshop
- Wednesday: Tandem language exchange at a bar
- Thursday: Greek short film and conversation
- Friday: Board games

All the activities are: free of charge, held by the school staff, and are in Greek.¡ (Apart from Tandem-Language exchange at a bar, on which anyone pays for his/her own drink.) The activities take place every day at 14.10 (apart from Wednesday's activity which is held at 20.00).

Note: Activity times might possibly change during high season and/or a week with a bank holiday (as the time schedule of the course will adjust for the substitution of the lost day's lessons).
