Abruzzo is a central region in Italy, to the East of the country's capital city, Rome. Its shoreline sits on the Adriatic Sea and has some picturesque beaches such as the Riserva Naturale guidata Punta Aderci. The region is known for its natural beauty with sights including Lago di Scanno and Majella National Park. The Apennine Mountains runs through Abruzzo and makes for excellent skiing during the colder months. It is home to the mountain peaks of Gran Sasso d'Italia and Corno Grande. L'Aquila is the regional capital, close to the Apennine Mountains.
