Location: Lexis English is situated in the suburb of Manly, north of Sydney. It is across the Sydney Harbour from the core of Sydney, and extends into the North Harbour. The school is on the coast and is well positioned in the centre of the area where all the bars, restaurants, cafes, hotels, supermarkets and clothing stores are.

Travelling around: Manly itself is small and easy to walk around. Most people opt to use the ferry to reach Sydney from Manly. The ferry station is a 5-minute walk from Lexis English. It takes around 20 minutes to reach Sydney, and the Quay is close to the Sydney Opera House and the Museum of Contemporary Art. It is also possible to use the bus service to reach Sydney centre from Manly. The bus stations are within a five minute walking radius from the school.

Main attractions: Manly Beach is a popular surf beach in the region. Lexis English is on the beachfront strip of Manly Beach, overlooking the sand. North Head is the bottom tip of Manly and has some interesting attractions including the Sydney Harbour National Park, The Barracks Precinct and hiking routes. The end tip of North Head is about 45 minutes from the school, with excellent views of the surrounding area.

Course structure: General English is taught as group lessons or private classes. There are exam preparation courses for the Cambridge and IELTS exam. The school offers packages for teens for the summer months.

Social programme: The school offers a busy social calendar for students to join including pub nights and other events for students to socialise with their peers.

“Located directly on Manly Beach and with a view of the ocean, the school's location is unbeatable. It's great that there are large balconies overlooking the sea where you can sit during the break or sometimes even during lessons. There are also countless cafés, restaurants, ice cream parlours, shops, etc. in the surrounding area where you can buy something to eat and drink. The quality of the lessons was very good; the teachers taught in a professional and interesting way. They were very friendly and adapted well to all the students. I learnt a lot and enjoyed going to the lessons. The organisers were very friendly and always had an open ear for any concerns or questions. I felt very welcome. There was a weekly programme with some fun leisure activities. However, I would have liked a bit more of that.”

“The organisation of the excursions and leisure activities has room for improvement. Unfortunately, there were no real school-organised excursions, but "only" an agency that we worked with. As no places were reserved for the school in advance, many tours were booked up very quickly or only very few people had the chance to go. I would have liked more excursions organised by the school, e.g. with its own bus, but also walks and joint activities after lessons.”

Quality of teaching / language progress: The first two weeks were perfect. We were a compatible small group with a dedicated teacher. The lessons were great and a lot of fun. After that, I was the only one who had booked the course and unfortunately there were no more suitable participants, so students from other courses were sought out. That was a good attempt, but some of the students were younger and some were not particularly committed, which is very noticeable in a small group.
