Having an Italian family accompany you during your first time living in Italy will help you understand some of the cultural differences that might exist between Turin and your place of origin.
One of the first areas you will check out should be the historic centre since this is where the vast majority of sights, shops and entertainment options are located - however just be aware that this is the area with the most international visitors, so if you want to be immersed around Italian speakers then you may wish to hang out in the San Salvario area of Turin.
