Unfortunately, there is a downside to everything. The city is actually great - shopping is really good, many things even open on Sundays. So many bars and restaurants, good infrastructure (but the buses can be unpredictable and the drivers can be ruthless), also well connected to other cities - less than 2 hours to Madrid on the train. In the summer it's a bit difficult in terms of hot weather and garbage. But they do have garbage and recycling containers everywhere - not everyone uses them, unfortunately. Quite a few people begging insistently wherever you go. Generally speaking, however, Valencia seems to be a generally safe city. Now for the unfortunate downside. Nightlife is really good and there are many international people in Valencia and there are events organized by the Valencia Language Exchange which are great fun - language exchange and clubbing at the Umbracle and language exchange and Latin dance lessons at the marina. Great fun for free entry - really - until it's not because these events are notorious for drink spiking and sexual assault on unsuspecting foreigners, especially students who will be eager to take advantage of the free entry and the opportunity for language exchange. Very unfortunate that bad actors specifically target these events for young foreign women in Valencia on exchange. And especially unfortunate that the problems - well known to medical personnel in Valencia - are not addressed at all when welcoming language students to Valencia.
I felt safe in Valencia at any time of the day or night, whether in the park, on the beach or in the city. In the 4 weeks I only met 1 unfriendly person - they must have moved! Otherwise I only got to know friendly and helpful people. For those who like it warm, like me, August is perfect. You can safely leave long trousers and sweaters at home. Even at night it is still pleasantly warm. Cycle paths run through the whole city, so that you can explore and traverse them by city bike (Valenbisi). The Turia, the green river bed, also invites you to cycle and / or linger. The city of arts and sciences is always worth a detour, especially for architecture lovers. With the changing light conditions there are always new perspectives to discover. I was also enthusiastic about the countless graffiti works of art that run through the whole city, but especially in the El Carmen district. Here you can drift for hours, from one street to the next and always discover something new. And the nightlife ... for me always something very special to dance on the beach or under the starry sky, therefore an absolute recommendation Umbracle (Fridays) and Marina Club (Wednesdays).
A charming, versatile and lively city, with historical and modern sides, with many restaurants and bars and with lots of greenery. Admirable are the many large very imaginatively designed different sports and leisure facilities in Valencia's many parks, which people like to use - for walking or cycling, as a retreat/niche for reading, for doing sports, suggestions for children and families to keep busy, for partying.... and for the price of 50 Ct (ten ticket) for 90 minutes, everything is also easily accessible by public transport (metro, bus). Staying with a host family meant that I was already out and about with the Valencians in the morning, before the tourists crowded the old town; this gave me another impression of the city.
I love Valencia! Food are pretty affordable compared to most countries in Europe. Valencia is a very flat city which I really like. I heard that it barely rain but while I was there, it's raining half of the time. Public transportation are cheap and convenient, but you can also walk to many places. It's not very big and bustling. It's very relaxing and I enjoyed my time there.
Definitely worth seeing and very suitable for practising Spanish. Everyone made an effort to speak slowly as soon as they realised that you were a foreigner. The city offers so many sights, shopping opportunities and a great beach, which is very easy to reach by tram. The weather in April was fantastic and I felt very at home.
I cannot comment on nightlife as we went for walks in the afternoons until early evenings and never at night. We had a nice apartment with a balcony, where we prepared our meals,. We spent our evenings doing our homework :), reading, talking, drinking wine, watching Spanish and Latin-American movies on Netflix etc.
The city is beautifully laid out in many parts. This classically includes the old town and, depending on your taste, some other parts of the city. The climate is comparable to that of the Balearic Islands and is therefore pleasant all year round. The city has a large city beach, which is always worth a visit.
Concrete town, little greenery, dogs walk and poop on the cobblestones, some clean up after them, some don't.... The beach is about an hour's walk from the centre, but transport seems to work well. Hot and humid climate in summer, hard to tolerate without air conditioning in the room.
One of the most beautiful cities in Europe, the old town is enchanting, the science quarter is overwhelming, the beach is fantastic. The cycle paths are unique, we've never experienced anything like it. We cycled over 200 kilometres in the 14 days because it was so easy and safe.
A beautiful city with much to offer. Our trip coincided with Las Fallas which while being a fascinating cultural phenomenon (especially for the local population) it did impact on the ease with which one could get about. And naturally how well one might sleep.

The service and the location were great! They helped us with an appartement from my daughter. And she has a nice place to stay. My progress was also good! My Spanish improved a lot. The mood in the school was good despite the floodings. And they were also involved in the community in a very good way

01 March 2025 - 19 March 2025The Fallas are loud, artistic, political, beautiful and fiery. Massive satirical sculptures of wood and papier maché fill the streets and are burnt at midnight on the last day. Pyrotechnics & firecrackers, period clothing, bullfighting, and marching bands bring in huge crowds every year.
June 2025The shortest night of the year is a magical moment in Valencia where fire and water come together to work spells that enchant one and all. The city supplies the wood and the citizens head down to the beaches, build bonfires, enjoy the fireworks and celebrate until the dawn.
August 2025The Tomatina takes place every year at the end of August in Buñol, a city not far from Valencia city. It consists of a giant tomato fight in the streets of Buñol. Participation is open to all but limited so be sure to buy your ticket in advance.
