What our students said about Tenerife
Tenerife is versatile and with the Teide you have almost all climatic zones on the island. Santa Cruz has a great big city character and you can find everything you can expect. The rural areas above the coast are relatively densely built up. A lot of industry and energy systems can be found on the south coast. In this respect, Puerto de la Cruz is the ideal place.
You can easily spend up to 2 weeks in Santa Cruz. There is something to explore in every direction. In general, I have noticed that the air quality has deteriorated. I hate the pollution from bottles and cans in the barrancos. There were even plastic bottles floating in the water at "Las Teresita's" local beach in Santa Cruz.
I'm not particularly interested in Puerto de La Cruz and I don't perceive it "as a city". The small historic centre still has flair and I like it. But I travelled to this tourist stronghold exclusively because of the course. (I like Tenerife's capital Santa Cruz very much "as a city").
Tenerife has a lot more to offer than beaches but if you want sun in winter it’s best to go to the south of the island as Puerto de la Cruz has a lot of clouds and rain. You can catch a local bus to the southern resorts at weekends for GBP 10 return.
Unfortunately, there are no beaches in the immediate vicinity of the school that can be reached without a long walk. The exception is Playa de Martianez, but it is difficult to get into the water because of the rocks.
I have been a frequent visitor to the island and the town of Puerto de la Cruz has become my favorite. The island is so beautiful and there are so many places to visit that are also culturally interesting.
The island is very varied. You can get everywhere easily by bus and the travel costs are reasonable. The price-performance ratio for food and accommodation was very good. There are only a few beaches.
I think Tenerife is a very beautiful island. I would not repeat Santa Cruz - very weather-determining experience (weather divide clouds/mountains), no Maritimo, no city beach to linger - what a pity
Unfortunately very touristy and often very dirty (lots of dog poo on the pavements, rubbish is simply dumped in the ravines/slopes). Puerto de la Cruz loses its charm due to the many hotel bunkers.
My assessment was of the town of Adeje, which could desperately do with a pedestrian zone. Tenerife's south is very crowded with tourists in November.

Q&A - Questions about Spanish courses and schools in Tenerife
- I am looking for a language school level A1/A2 for conversation in small groups near Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife with 1-2 hours daily at the beginning of January. What can you suggest me?“1-2 hours per day are possible in private lessons. If you would like to learn in a group, you can choose between Don Quijote (maximum 12 students in a group) or FU International Academy (maximum 10 students in a group). The smallest group course comprises 20 lessons per week. ”Sabine Krafack, LanguageCourse.Net - Nov 19, 2024My son wants to do a Spanish course and surf for 2 weeks in Tenerife by himself. He also needs accommodation and is 17 years old. What do you recommend?“FU International Academy offers intensive + surf lessons. The minimum age of students is 16 in this school so that's perfect! How many Spanish lessons per week would he like to follow?
The school also offers an airport transfer both ways from/to Tenerife South Airport.
As he is 17 years old his only accommodation option at FU is a homestay family. Homestay is the option that I recommend for a true, full-on immersion experience and if you include either full or half board, then you also get to keep practicing around the dinner table, learning much more about the culture and traditions than you would otherwise.
Contact us if you have more questions or if you need help booking the trip. We'll be happy to assist you. ”Robin Rebecca Pietersma, LanguageCourse.Net - Feb 14, 2023FAQ - Frequently asked questions about Spanish courses in Tenerife
- Are the departures individual or group?“Departures are always individual, neither we nor the schools organise group departures.”Antonio Zoppo, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Feb 08, 2023Will the child arriving at the airport find his eventual family or is he accompanied by someone?“It depends on the age of the child. If the child is under 18, it is advisable (if not obligatory for many schools) to include the transfer to and from the airport, and there will be a school representative waiting for him/her and accompanying him/her to the family.
If, on the other hand, the child is at least 18 years old, the transfer is not compulsory but recommended only if the plane arrives after 19:00 - 20:00, depending on the time of year.
In this case, there is nothing to prevent you from also making arrangements with the host family to meet them or some member of the family at the airport.”Antonio Zoppo, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Feb 08, 2023I am looking for a Spanish course for a 10-year-old child in Tenerife. Do you have any options?“Yes, in the months of July and August, the school SMS Spanish Experience in Tenerife offers a Junior Programme for students between 4 to 16 years old.
The course includes lessons only, taught in a play-based methodology but in an effective way.”Ana Carolina, Area Manager from LanguageCourse.net - Aug 01, 2022Other cities often combined with Spanish courses in Tenerife
