Location: Centro Mediterraneo Pintadera, an Italian language school, is based in Alghero on the Mediteranean island of Sardinia. Sardinia is a central point within the Mediterranean sea and as a result, there are a number of sites that reflect its history including the Bronze age stone ruins and the Necropolis of Anghelu Ruju, both of which are found close to Alghero.

Getting around: The island is surrounded by coasts and it has a number of interesting geographical features to tempt you for a day away from the city. A 40-minute car drive from the school is Neptune's Grotto, a large marine cave with gems galore, and Capi Caccia the picturesque cliff setting with a lighthouse and amazing views of the area.

City's features: With its terracotta-coloured roofs and its golden walls, Alghero is very picturesque and has a lot on offer for its visitors. Centro Mediterraneo Pintadera is in a great location within the city, a 3-minute walk from both the Alghero Cathedral, a must-see, and the church of St Michaels with a beautifully coloured dome. There are beautiful strolls to be had throughout the city where you can explore all of Alghero's hidden gems.

Course structure: Centro Mediterraneo Pintadera believes that the best way to learn the Italian language is to find a balance between a stimulating classroom environment and practical classes using the language in real-life scenarios around the city. The school offers a number of interesting cultural classes including AllegraMente - A Vacationer’s delight, which allows its students to learn Italian designed for basic travel and Lingua + Cultural Course, which uses its extra lessons to learn about the history of the area and Sardinia itself. Centro Mediterraneo Pintadera is a perfect mixture of learning a language and experiencing a real Sardinian experience.

Quality of teaching / language progress: I have been absolutely amazed by the quality of teaching. I have learned 4 languages mostly at university, where the structure of the learning process is very defined and progress oriented. I was very positively surprised as Maria Rosa managed to get the same level in a group of very different adults with very different goals. As for me, I have a very command of street Italian but grammar was non existent. Also the structure of 2h grammar, followed by 2h communication skills has worked great!
Other comments The schools is very well organised and with a nice homey feel to it. The location is amazing in the city centre. And they do offer a lot of activities if you would like to join in but not in a pushy way.
