Location: Nestled in the Surry Hill borough of Sydney resides Astley English College. Surrey Hill is described as the bohemian neighbourhood of Sydney with a comparison made to Nottinghill in London. The streets are filled with eclectic eateries, one of a kind boutiques and unique coffee bars, with a monthly vintage market where locals flock to get great deals on trendy clothing and one of a kind items.
Getting around: The school is minutes from the central Sydney train station with lines extending throughout the province of New South Wales. Sydney is the largest city in Australia and although not the capital its size often confuses people into thinking that it is. It is a modern city with a well designed public transport system allowing its residents and visitors to explore its quarters with ease.
City features: Sydney Opera House draws the most interest from tourists and from Astley English College, students can visit the stunning building by walking through the streets in 40 minutes or by bus hopping for 20 minutes. Around the Sydney Opera House, along with great views of the surrounding areas, students can see the Botanical Gardens, The Museum of Sydney and the Art Gallery of New South Wales. It is not possible to enter the water around the harbour, but for those needing to place their feet in the Australian water, then Bondi Beach is definitely worth a trip. From Astley English College, students can take a bus to the coast of the city in 35 minutes and enjoy the sun after a hard day of studying.
Ethos of school: The school’s principles are based around the 5 words; Respect, Positivity, Empathy, Loyalty and Fun and this is transparent in the daily running of the school. The school respects that each student has their own background and reasoning for learning English and focuses on understanding this and incorporating it into group work. It is important to the school that no student is left behind in learning and the teachers are empathic in the differing pace of learning a language each student may have and are adaptable in their learning styles so that the whole group learns together.
Teaching style: The staff are highly trained in teaching English to foreign students and intertwine the curriculum taught in the classroom with fun and interactive games to keep students engaged at all times. Everyone at the school has a positive attitude and encourages students to engage in the classroom and outside to make the most of their experience at the school as practical application of English is just as important as the grammar.
School facilities: Astley English College has a support desk for all students to use which aids the school in being loyal to each student's wishes and ensures that any problems that arise whilst at the school, be it inside the school or outside are addressed and no student feels alone. Other facilities available at the school are a student lounge, a computer lab, a library and a cafeteria for break time and conversing with peers after class.

“1. the school has a super central location
2. it is the cheapest compared to other English schools
3. the teachers are super nice and friendly, they give good lessons, they try to make it varied and put a lot of effort into it.

7. there are sometimes excursions.

“1. The "kitchen" is only minimally equipped - not much cutlery, stuff you need to clean your dishes
2. In the toilets there are never paper towels to dry your hands and only sometimes soap, and there are no toilet brushes next to the toilets.
3. The air conditioning on the first floor is set much, much too cold, you even start to shiver if you sit there for more than an hour. On the third floor, on the other hand, the air conditioning doesn't work at all, which doesn't bother me personally as there is a fan.
4. It was a bit disorganised at the beginning, the school didn't even know that I was enrolled there, but they dealt with everything in a very friendly way.
5. Ihe classrooms are very poorly equipped, uneven desks, different chairs, a blackboard that is too small with too little space, they use a TV to display what we are working on - so no projector or whiteboard. The other classrooms have a seat with an integrated table, but it's far too small and you can't work well at it.
6. The learning material could be a bit more.
7. The teaching methods could be a bit more modern and more adapted to the students”
