Lia, the only kind person I've ever spoken to.
Disliked
One star because it's not possible to put 0. The online evaluation was not taken into account. After a brief presentation I was sent to a class below my level, I learnt more English words than Spanish. Professor Juan completely ignored me. Out of the 25 hours of lessons I had to speak for a good 15 minutes. I had to read 2 or 3 parts of a text. For the 'intensive' hours, there were 2 or 3 of us and we spent them doing exercises while the teacher read his emails! On Friday we took the end-of-week test, and I was the last to be corrected, but the teacher only corrected part of it because it was the break and despite having told him that it was my last day. I was alone for the last hour and the teacher didn't come back from the break, and 30 minutes before the end of lessons I saw him talking to the secretary and I left so as not to cause a scandal.

- The focus is exclusively on oral tuition
Disliked
- No introduction/ welcome/ information on arrival - No overview/ concept of what will be taught - Homework is sent via WhatsApp and should then be completed on the smartphone - You have to buy books for $60, which are then hardly used - very little is written and explained on the blackboard. YouTube videos are shown instead - You don't have time to take notes. Very little grammar is taught - the focus is exclusively on oral teaching. No attention is paid to the fact that there are also other types of learners - the teacher seems to decide spontaneously what he wants to cover during the day - A lot of material is covered. The focus is more on quantity than quality. hardly any vocabulary is taught, it is simply assumed that everything is known - There is hardly any work with texts either - the lessons mainly consist of questions that the students have to answer in turn
Review details
Quality of teaching / language progress: Chaotic organisation. It's better to split the lessons up: grammar and vocabulary exercises in the morning. Conversation in the afternoon. Instead of group conversation in the morning and individual conversation at lunchtime.
Other comments Teachers and administration were friendly but not really helpful. Apparently they don't know how to do it better. They should talk to other schools.

Other comments In any case, ask again directly whether the booked course is also offered in this way. Unfortunately, I was packed into an already running class unit. The teachers were very eager to include me well and there were also targeted individual lessons, but nevertheless it was not the perfect condition to learn the language well according to the circumstances.

Quality of teaching / language progress: The "Spanish" classrooms are all windowless. There is no printer, the secretary had to ask if I could send something to print it out.
Other comments Unfortunately, this school apparently focuses on teaching English. For students of Spanish classes, it would be great if more activities were offered outside of class ... Even in the evening so that students with private classes can also see something of the city.

FAQ about EPA! Español en Panamá, Panama City

  • Sure! We can coordinate private lessons for the student. The minimum amount of hours for this programme is 12.
Nathalie, Sales & Marketing Coordinator from EPA! Español en Panamá - Oct 01, 2021
  • Yes, payment must be made in dollars so that the school receives the amount corresponding to that on the invoice.
If you give the school's bank details to your bank, they will convert the amount at the current rate and give you more information about the equivalent amount in euros.
Madly Simba, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Feb 23, 2024
  • The 'general' programme is specifically for people living in Panama, and the minimum duration for this course is normally 8 weeks.

Normally, travelling students opt for more lessons per week so that they can really make some headway with their Spanish. 20 lessons per week is the most common choice. There is also an option with 15 group lessons per week.

If you really want to go for 6 lessons a week, the school can see if they can make this happen, but they really recommend opting for a (semi-)intensive course (classes 9:00-13:00 Mon-Fri) if you want to have a good sense of progress in 2 weeks.

By the way, you can also choose to do 6 private lessons a week, then you will also feel the progress well.

Very happy to hear from you what you would like to do.
Stivally Cortes, Sales & Customer services advisor from EPA! Español - Sep 11, 2024
