I left the course and stay at the Collège International de Cannes early because it did not meet my expectations in any way. The impression that results from previous comments no longer finds any correspondence in reality. It could be a beautiful place and an inspiring school - but those days are definitely over. We were told that there was a change in ownership and management. As a result, there is a lack of communication, organization, leadership and responsibility at all levels. There was no greeting for arriving course participants, no information about the college and organizational processes, no leisure activities. There was a lack of free access to materials and learning aids (library, computer). Classes seemed disorganized and random. The participants were not divided according to their language level, there were underwhelmed and overwhelmed fellow students in the courses I attended. Although I arrived at B1, I was assigned a B2 class. Participants from A0 to B2 came together in the "conversation course" - it remained a mystery how successful learning could be achieved under these conditions. The teacher spent a lot of class time complaining about the difficult situation at the college or discussing organizational problems that arose. Targeted work was neglected as a result. Her teaching methods seemed outdated and not very motivating: Frontal teaching, written individual work, question and answer sessions in which everyone was allowed to say something, grammar, dictation. I missed the use of videos or audio samples, playful elements and actual conversation. Having booked an intensive course at this school proved to be an expensive mistake. Of the 21 hours booked per week, only 16 were held (note: public holidays). The value for money is not correct at all. It's exorbitantly overpriced for what's on offer. There were relatively few participants in the language courses, the majority of whom were teenagers and young adults. There were hardly any older course participants and therefore the contact possibilities for me were rather limited.
Disliked
In short, you don't feel welcome and nobody cares if and how you can learn something. The biggest weakness of the school is the lack of commitment from the staff and the lack of hospitality. The atmosphere is impersonal and indifferent. Of course there were also friendly people, but the prevailing attitude was ignorance, unfriendliness and bureaucracy. One saw the incompetence of running a language school and a hostel at the same time, with the emphasis now probably being placed on "youth hostels". (The Hostel Santa Maria is newly listed on booking.com.) The completely overwhelmed staff could not cope with the rush; long queues formed at the reception. The rooms are unlovingly and partially furnished, neglected and were not cleaned. Many guests complained about the uncleanliness, missing towels, soap, toilet paper - the absolutely simplest things were missing. The communal toilets were in a deplorable condition. There was neither free access to (cooled) drinking water nor to a kitchen, which is unspeakable with summer temperatures of over 30 degrees. The vending machine didn't work most of the time. The surcharge for air conditioning is very expensive! Access to a minimally equipped kitchen with a fridge and a hot plate and, believe it or not, a pot, costs 25 euros per week! The "security measures" consist in the fact that every guest has to hand in their key card to the reception when leaving the premises. The door only opens when the clerk presses a button. When you arrive you have to ring the bell and wait for someone to open. You get the key card by naming the room number - control of access authorization? - None. The College is not a safe place, there were always unauthorized persons on the premises and people who behaved incorrectly. Under these circumstances, one cannot send young people there with a clear conscience. The bistro isn't always open, but it offers drinks and snacks and at least one refrigerated room. The cafeteria is not recommended, the food is very mediocre and the staff are often dismissive.

The location is great and the teachers of the first two weeks were great, with the second week being exceptionally good. Unfortunately, the last two weeks I had a replacement teacher that was not competent to teach the level I was in.
Insider tip: Wonderful location for a language school where you can profit from the beach and the beautiful little places around as well as meeting students from around the world.

Our teacher, Mary Helene was incredible, as were our classmates. They were both very welcoming and energetic and I felt like we had a good bond. No one was left out.
Insider tip: We were only there for a week, but you get out of it what you put into it. Make some friends, try your best, and you'll have a lot of fun.

Other comments We'd recommend it to anyone looking to learn and grow at any level. Everyone was incredibly nice and accommodating. We hope to do it again soon.

The position, friendliness and teaching. Plus so many students from all over the world. I really enjoyed being on campus and so close to the beach and town.
Disliked
The coffee in the cafeteria! It was undrinkable.
Insider tip: It really depends on your personality, but I honestly think from the introvert to the extrovert, the 16 year old to the 80 year old, everyone would enjoy it.

Quality of teaching / language progress: Really good as the teachers were terrific. Also, three hours in the morning was perfect as I was able to feel that I had a large part of the day free afterwards.
Other comments A really special place and moment in time. One of those places positioned in such a perfect spot that you'll remember your time there forever.

The faculty was good but it was difficult to teach students of different levels in the same group. A pity!
Insider tip: They have to keep in mind that the highest level would be B2. If their level is higher, they do not have classes AND the ratio of students per class is very high. It is not classified well by levels. I think it slows down the classes.
Review details
Other comments The groups are too large. There are different levels in the same class, we were 20 students which delays learning. There were complaints but they commented that since August 15th was a holiday, there were only 4 days left and they had teachers on vacation. We did not think it was appropriate when summer courses were offered. Teachers should be present, not on vacation.

The organisation does not seem to be geared towards individual participants. There were usually only groups here. From the USA and Mexico. Except in the afternoon. That was a brilliant course with 4 participants who were all fully motivated. No leisure activities in the afternoon. I suppose there was only something for the groups.
