Bologna ratings & opinions
How our students rated their experience in Bologna
What our students said about Bologna
The city is beautiful und because there are portici everywhere, you are actually protected from the sun and rain almost all the time. I never needed my sunglasses. The food is really extremely good everywhere, the city is not yet so overcrowded in terms of tourism (like Venice or Verona, for example) & you really feel that you are moving among Italians, which of course makes the feeling of being alive even nicer. I can absolutely recommend the city!
Germany
I love the porticoes in the historic center of Bologna. What a cultural heritage! And the leaning towers, Asinelli and Garisenda, the symbol of the town. There are not many tourists in the city, how nice! The atmosphere is friendly of Bologna "dotta, grassa e rossa".
Finland
Beautiful city, the feeling that is in the center of everything :D First of all, in the city itself a lot of interesting and beautiful places to get around and see, great food and also liked the fact that you can easily get to other cities are not less interesting.
Russia
I loved the city. It is very walkable. It is a beautiful city, very old. It is big enough to have plenty to do and small enough to get around. Also everyone is really nice and lets you speak in Italian even if you are not very good and if you take a long time.
I was delighted to choose Bologna for these 15 days of study. It's a very pretty city, very clean, with lots of historic monuments, and you get the impression you're travelling back in time. You can get around by train without spending too much money.
France
The town, with its many students and young people, radiates pure joie de vivre. The Italians enjoy eating and drinking, being together. In April, the temperatures are very pleasant. In August, it is unbearably hot and humid, I was told by locals.
Switzerland
A beautiful city where I have been on holiday several times. Sights like Momba, San Luca, the towers, various churches, the Pinacotec and the Archaeological Museum, just like the whole atmosphere, not to mention the colours of the city.
Germany
Depends what you want - it excels in history, culture, architecture however I found the city was not as clean as I expected. Rubbish was left overflowing from bins and some of the old canals were uncovered and very smelly
Australia
I didn't really check out the nightlife, so cant comment on this. It was really lovely to walk around even when it is raining because of the Porticos. Great public transport system and almost always on time.
Australia
Wonderful city. Need a few weeks to really dig down and see everything. I like that the centre is really quite small and very easy to walk around. Wonderful history and buildings.
Australia
B. is a vibrant city because of the students. The city seemed a bit gloomy to me because of the arcades. Pleasantly, it is spared from mass tourism compared to other cities.
Germany
Bologna is a great city with lots of activities, museums and churches. From the train station we visited Parma, an unexpected surprise. It has a great location.
Absolutely no public toilets seen. Unseasonably freezing and wet weather literally dampened the experience. But overall Bologna is a fascinating city.
Australia
Fantastic on the whole. I was unlucky to be there in May during torrential, unseasonal rain and floods. I love the city now and will return.
England UK
Unfortunately the weather was a little abnormal (all over Europe) as it went from almost winter-temperatures to blazing hot summer-temps.
Switzerland
Bologna, like any city, is a great place to visit if one has a good enough budget. Cities are not so great with limited income.
Australia
I don't need public transport and I can't rate it. The same is actually true of security.
Germany
Bologna is a beautiful, atmospheric and pleasant city. I would recommend it to everyone!
Netherlands
A top city, crowded but more with students than tourists. A vibrant and friendly place.
Australia
Besides all the sights, Bologna is just a "normal" Italian university town

Good teachers, pleasant school, good administration and organization. Super good location! After 2 hours of grammar, half an hour of drinking coffee together in a bar and then another 1.5 hours of vocabulary and conversation.
Good school.

The special feature is the varied afternoon programme. This is very attractive for solo travellers. I would like to emphasise the hike, where you can easily get into (Italian) conversation with other participants.

Roberto, a teacher, explained things very well. He spoke clearly and distinctly and used the blackboard effectively to get his point across. I’ve taken many language courses (Spanish, German, Italian and French) throughout the world. Roberto was one of the best teachers I have ever had. Andrea, the manager, was always upbeat. It was a joy to go there every morning. Donatella was also very good.

Wonderful school in the centre of the old town with a very warm, open atmosphere. The teachers were very committed and ensured that the lessons were varied and entertaining. There was also an afternoon programme every day (Mon-Fri), such as a visit to a church or museum or a half-day excursion to another city.

I liked the small classes, the opportunity to change classes if the level was not right, the possibility of coming intermittently - the overall flexibility of the attendance. The teachers were young, vibrant and skilled. The Directore is kind and helpful. The location is in the centre of the old town. The classrooms are bright and airy.
So good I cannot wait to return

Q&A - Questions and answers about Bologna
- Are there any cooking classes in English available?“No, all cooking classes are in Italian and can only be booked in combination with an Italian course.”Louise Granath, LanguageCourse.Net - Jul 20, 2023I would like to attend a course with my girlfriend. Is it possible to live in a shared flat in Bologna and share a double room?“Yes, there is an option and I would recommend Cultura Italiana. There you would have the chance to live as a couple in a double room with an Italian in a shared flat. The shared flats are about 20 minutes' walk from the school. ”Beatrice, Booking manager from Italy - Mar 29, 2023I would like to do Bildungsurlaub Hessen in Bologna. Can you offer me something?“At Academya Lingue, you can choose the combination course of 20 group lessons and 10 private lessons and start on any Monday.
At A.L.C.E. you can choose 30 group lessons, which makes the course a lot cheaper, but this school would prefer you to start on the first Monday of the month.
Make sure that you complete 30 lessons, because this is the only way to get recognised in Hesse. This is the case with both of the schools mentioned. ”Lisa Saskia Schiwy, LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 24, 2023I am looking for a course for my 15 years old daughter, preferably in Bologna. Are there any camps in the summer, preferably with accommodation with host families?“At the time of writing, we don't have any options for summer camps for young learners in Bologna. We can check the availability of private lessons for your daughter. In case this is something that would be interesting for you, just let us know and we will be happy to assist you.”Ana Carolina Dos Santos, LanguageCourse.Net - Nov 23, 2022FAQ about schools in Bologna
